Left Behind Series

I like the books...because they make ya think. It is the authors ideas are only a possibility of what could happen...like many authors out there have other ideas. The thing is is that the series has brought so many to Christ and reaffirmed others in Christ. Everytime I listen to them...I am full of hope and joy in the way that God works.

About the series saying that you can take both marks...that is not what is in the books. It says that you can't take both...if you take the mark of the beast...the Holy Spirit will go from you and you will invite the wrath of God on you.

I enjoy the books myself...as a matter of fact, I first heard about this messageboard over on the Left Behind one! It's true that these books are works of fiction based on the Bible, but they have provided wake-up calls for a lot of people.

I would just like to add my two cents, I truly enjoyed the lb series I think they are a wonderfull tool to reach unbelievers and believers alike, although a work of fiction they really made me do some thinking and certainly captivated me, I personally haven't heard anything negative about the series and I do think they have reached a lot of people who might otherwise not think about the future. I just wish they would have expanded the movie or do a sequel I think it sort of left a lot unsaid.

Lilylamb,

I think I see your point but I'm not sure. I can't find anywhere in the bible where the mark is 'forced' on anyone. There is a choice, take the mark or die. This is still a choice. If the beast could force the mark on somebody by taking away their choice (through drugs, or through bondage) then why bother giving a choice at all? Simply drug or tie up the Christians and stamp them and send them to hell. But of course this would violate Pauls remarks that NOTHING can seperate us from the love of God. So for all these things to be true it is obvious that the mark cannot be 'forced' (ie, taking away choice) on christians.

good point ... guess what I'm trying to say is that they will be FORCED to CHOOSE (the verse says he "causes" all to take the mark - they have no choice if they want to survive/live - so they have to decide if they want to live and take the mark or die without the mark) ... Chaim made his choice when he refused to let his parents know that he was a Christian and allowed them to push him into a job working for the enemy ... had he been upfront and honest about it to start with he would never have been put into that position. To me, it seems like he was "denying" Christ by doing whatever his parents wanted him to ...

I really don't think that a person can have both marks ...

I have a problem with some other teachings in the series, but it is fiction so .....

the left behind series is okay.

it is flashy, and it does get non-christian readers getting a bit of knowledge about Christ, so thats a good thing.
on the other hand, anyone who has read any good literature knows that as far as writing quality goes, left behind is very poorly written. the characters are paper thin, the action is mostly filler. the plot is inconsistent, etc. not to mention the theology is questionable.

i think left behind is okay if you are a more mature christian. or, it is good for non christians as long as they continue to investigate Christ and not just take that as gospel. i have read non christians that come onto the Left behind messageboard and do not want to be raptured because they want to be "soldiers for Christ". if they knew more about Christ, they wouldn't say things like that.

I agree with most of the comments as to the quality of the writing in the last post. Most of the people who read the series at my library are not who I would consider born-agiain believers. That is snot to say they are bad people. and I am not judging them in any way.I just think it is an interesting fact to note

I have all the books and absolutely love them!
I cant wait for the next one to come out. As a rule when I buy one I have it finished that night or the following day.

Very good books with a great message.

Blynn: I saw the movie too, and like you I found it hard to follow, even knowing the book. It seemed to stray in places. But I think Kirk Cameron did a fantastic job. :D

I hope they make more, but actually stay with the books more.

I stopped reading the series for precisely the same reasons Diddymus and cb did. The writing is deplorable, the characters are only two-dimensional, and the way they treat the women! Oy Vey!

I will admit, when I read the first book, the very first thing I said to my husband was, "boy, hand this to a non-believer, and they're going to run to their Bible in fear." So, on that account, they are a good tool to get people interested in what is said in Revelation and elsewhere in the Bible about end times. But, since they are purely fiction, they leave a lot to be desired if you're going to base your beliefs off of their version of events.

I saw the movie, too, after I read the book, and I was very disappointed. They changed a lot to make it more Hollywood-action like, even stooping so low as to add some big shooting scene. I hope they don't make any more movies unless they make them better than the first one...the books are so much better.

if you think visually as opposed to conceptually, pictures as opposed to words sorta thing, then avoid the movie, as it will very possibly be a let down... the books are amazing, and i have heard (where i do not recall) that other movies are in the works...

I think I read it on the LB messageboard that there's at least one other movie planned...but I don't know if what I read was a definite report....
Also, since I am definitely a visual thinker, I'll refrain from seeing the movie that's already out. Thanks for the tip! :D

I love the LB series! I think it is a great series and it has led a lot of people to Christ. I do have my discrepancies with a few things in the books, but its fiction and there are so many interpretations of Revelation (i.e. pre-trib, post-trib, etc. etc.) that it is probably difficult to write to "please everyone" so to say. As for entertainment value, i think they are super. They have also helped me to imagine a little more about what might take place during the trib. period. The book of Revelation is so "deep" (for lack of a better word) and for many, very difficult to understand, and the books can really help bring to light some of the more in-depth prophecies in a "layman" sort of view. However, as I said before, these books are purely fictional and are based on the author's view and interpretation of the Revelation. I give a two thumbs up to Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye!

As for the Chang thing, I would personally say that in no instance would any Tribulation saint be placed in a position like that, but this was probably an attempt by the authors to expand on ideas or questions presented to them, that would be my guess anyway.

Peace! Love! Joy!
In Him,
Noelle <><

The TV show I would watch....because hopefully it wouldn't be like a "rush" to get all the information in a limited amount of time. I think that's what was wrong with the movie....you're given this amount of time and you have to fit all this stuff in that small amount of time. It's hard for ANY book that becomes a movie. :)

I just hope they get a blond to play Chloe.....they described her as such in the books, so I have trouble seeing her as a dark haired. Whenever I see books brought to life, one of the first things I look for is that the actors look something like the characters they're supposed to be playing. I know, the important part is how they play the character, but I think so visually that I go into everything with a picture of how it should look already in my head.
