Nihilist Extrodinaire
Well it's a double-loaded question. It assumes that some particular image is ingrained in the religion, and it assumes that China could export a religion which didn't originate in China. Considering that, the answer is no.
I would say it is for almost all cases. Just look at the images of Jesus past and present missionaries bring on their journeys. It doesn't seem to matter if the mission is being conducted in Africa, South America, or any isolated area, all the people being ministered to are encouraged to pray to an Aryan-idealized Jesus.
China's repressive attitude towards the proselytizing of Christianity ironically has worked in the local branch of Christians' favour in regards of allowing them to create their own identification with their deity (Jesus) by having their imagery of him be shaped by their cultural and ethnic experience rather than having it dictated to them like pretty much every other Christian non-European group.
Relating this back to the OP, this would be an excellent reason for disallowing pictures of holy figures as they can easily be warped for political reasons and avoid the trouble of trying to disentangle the religious iconography from embedded past connotations.
