• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

i feel so far from God and Everytime I pick up a bible I keep making promises in my head not to read more than a few sentences. Does anyoe have ocd about making vows you don't want to make?? If I don't do it I get really scared, like somebody I know will die or something. I really want this ocd to be gone and I feel like God is mad at me and I feel like my spirit is hungry because I haven't been feeding it with God's word. Uggg, I can't stop making promises and in the Bible Jesus said not to make them because they were from the enemy, but I can't stop. Any one have advice on coming back to the Lord. I feel like I'm backsliding and I want to stop. Its like the enemy just ruined my mindset, forcing me to go back to the way I was before I was a real Christian. I'm sorry if I keep posting alot on here but I need help. The kids at school just worry about college while I struggle with,"if I circle the right answer so so so will get hurt" I hate these thoughts!!!!:groupray:Please pray

Sweetheart you are a real christian struggling with classic OCD. Umm if you can go see a psychatrist and get on some anti depressents. That will lesson the intrusive thinking and promise rituals that you make. Your not backsliding, your stuggling with a disorder that can really be treatable with the right help. Reading the word should be just like reading a magizene. You enjoy it and there is no promises that you'll read more because thats a spirit of condemnation that tells you you didn't read enough. So just let go a read as litl or as much as you want.

Don’t know where to begin
It's like my worlds caving in
And I try but I can't control my fear
Where do I go from here

Sometimes it's so hard to pray
When You feel so far away
but I am willing to go where You want me to
God I Trust You

There's a raging sea
Right in front of me
Wants to pull me in
Bring me to my knees

So let the waters rise
If You want them to
I will follow You
I will follow You

I will swim in the deep
Cuz you’ll be next to me
You’re in the eye of the storm and the calm of the sea
Your never out of reach

God You know where I’ve been
And You were there with me then
You were faithful before You’ll be faithful again
I’m holding Your hand

There's a raging sea
Right in front of me
Wants to pull me in
Bring me to my knees

So let the waters rise
If You want them to
I will follow You
I will follow You

God Your love is enough
You will pull me through
I’m holding onto You
God Your love is enough
I will follow You
I will follow You

There's a raging sea
Right in front of me
Wants to pull me in
Bring me to my knees

So let the waters rise
If You want them to
I will follow You
I will follow You

When you make one of these OCD vows and then break it, you are also breaking its power over you. You are confronting the fear and devaluing the thoughts, and that is the way to freedom from OCD. So if you find yourself unintentionally vowing not to read the Bible for more than a few sentences, go ahead and read as much as you want. I know this will cause you to panic, but it's a form of behavioural therapy and it will help you to overcome the OCD. With practice, the fear will be less. You know in your heart that nothing is really going to happen to anyone if you 'break' the vow; it's just a question of stepping out and facing the fear.

The Lord is your Shepherd and His will is always to lead you back to Himself. So try to just rest in Him and trust that He loves you with an everlasting love, enough to sacrifice Himself for you on the cross. Jesus promised that whoever comes to Him He will never cast out.

God bless,
