Your body a Temple ?

I think we should notice the singular and plural here. The "you" is plural
2075 este (es-teh');

second person plural present indicative of 1510; ye are:

KJV-- be, have been, belong.

and the "temple" is singular. That is to say we, collectively, are a singular temple of God. I look at us as stones of this temple
1 Pet 2:5
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Now follows this verse
1 Cor 3:17
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

The guy that defiles Gods temple will be destroyed. It doesn't say this defiler's temple will be defieled or that the defiler is part of the temple of God. Or am I missing something here.

We all are "the body of Christ" even if you look at
1 Cor 6:19-20
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

We are collectivly the Temple of God and singularly as stones of this temple indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

The spiritual dimension exist, in just that, the spiritual world. Spirits can only manifest themself in our physical world with Gods permission. We exist in both dimensions. We have physicality and spirituality. The Holy Spirit unites with ours and in so doing exists with us and the best way to describe it is as a dwelling in us.

The persons that defiel I think are these
2 Pet 2:1
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

I take it to mean that we are now the spiritual temples that God lives in ie. the church is the people, not the building.

I think it goes back to what Jesus said,"that God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and truth."
God is no longer in the Holy of holies in Temple He is in the Holy of Holies in your heart. God does not desire sacrifice but a broken and contrite heart. I think we as Christians get hung up on external things in life. Example: I don't do this or that so I am a good Christian. God looks to what is in your heart. Why did you do this or that good thing? If it wasn't a pure motive then it meant nothing. Jesus said it is not what enters a man (food or drink) that defiles a man it is what comes out of his mouth that defiles because that comes from his heart. For ancient Israel they circumcised the men to identify themeselves externally to God. God says later for Israel to circumcise their hearts. I held such a narrow view of this concept before but now I am reconsidering it.

For me ,this is a reflection of the changes made at Jesus' death,

the difference between the old covenant

with the [failed] Levitical priesthood and the physical temple

with an [ineffective] high priest offering for himself and the priests and the people-

and the new covenant

with no veil between man and God ,so no earthly priesthood (!) .a high priest in heaven [Jesus Christ/the Word], DIRECT contact with our Father, God Almighty , for EVERY man through the spirit of truth [as promised and made possible through Jesus' sacrifice of life as a man]

Thus the old temple has been condensed into us, we are the temple now.

The key word here is Holy. While the main lesson is one of sexual purity. You have to look at it from a Jesus attitude. I do not think we should even look at the things that God considers to be a sin. For example, watching a Jerry Springer show is totally the wrong thing to do, that will defile your attitude.

It is not only wrong to be immoral, it is wrong to be entertained by immoral people. We should not watch the moves, or listen to the music. We are a called out people from a called out people. Even we should seperate ourselves from so called Christians who do not live their life in a way that honors God.
