Republicans are often fundamentalist Christians. Are there Republicans out there who don't believe in a strictly literal interpretation of the Bible and who see truth in non-Christian faiths? Furthermore, are there Republicans out there who are more moderate than far right conservative?

Yes, there are. In fact not one of the Republicans I know fits your profile.

Proof?

Are there Republicans out there who don't believe in a strictly literal interpretation of the Bible and who see truth in non-Christian faiths? Furthermore, are there Republicans out there who are more moderate than far right conservative?

Are there any liberals out there who are not so far left they have nothing but hatred for Christian conservatives and Republicans?

Yes. I know quite a few Republicans who don't fit your fundamentalist, far-right Evangelical caricature. I even know more than a few who don't go to church at all. If you really believe all Republicans are the way you think they are, then you've bought someone's propaganda hook, line, and sinker. Apparently, Fox News isn't the only source of propaganda in the world. That's such a shocker.

Not all Republicans are "right-wing fundamentalists". In fact, there are some Republicans that aren't even believers, and that's part of what bugs me about the implication by some people that it is the "Christian party" when that proves differently. Now, don't get me wrong; I strongly believe in good morals, but I disagree that Republicans have the best morals. Weak morals are to be found on both ends of the spectrum, yet they have their share of good ideas, as well. My conservative views in some issues, somewhat liberal in others, and being pretty moderate as a whole, makes me one of those rare and obscure "nonpartisans". :)

No, I use to be a republican until Bush convinced me to reevaluate my political beliefs and I realised that I really was a libertarian. I don't know any fundamentalist but I do know many republicans of a variety of faiths. Some of them in fact are militant atheist and certainly would not feel comfortable around the company of fundamentalist.

In 2008 I was living in St. Paul Minnesota and I was a Ron Paul supporter trying to promote some of his ideas to the local republican party. I did not have much success, the party consisted almost entirely of catholics who meet at the local Irish pub, drank, and complained about abortion. There was very little interest in discussing bring the wars to a close or any meaningful fiscal reform.

Are you saying there are many Republicans out there who, though Christian, don't believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible?

There are more who interpret the scriptures according to their own whims and desires than those who don't. Everyone is their own authority these days. Is this a shock to you? There are Republicans who aren't Christians at all. I know some- don't you?

I noticed that you identify yourself as a Christian, do you believe in an entirely literal interpretation of the bible?

How do you define Christian?

I do not believe in a strictly literal interpretation of the Bible. I define a Christian, broadly speaking, as someone who enters a relationship with God as revealed in Jesus.

Could it be that most fundamentalist Christians seem to register as Republicans? Nothing much more can be derived from this. Obviously, not all Republicans are fundamentalist Christians. "Fundamentalists" probably don't even make up that much of the Republican party.

I guess you'd have to define what a "far right conservative" is. To a lot of liberals, anything to the "right" of their own beliefs is "far right". ;)

In my experience there are two types of Republicans. One is primarily concerned with business issues, deregulation, basically repealing everything enacted to prevent another great depression while the other is concerned about social issues. One holds the checkbook and the other does the footwork. I've known a lot of business people that vote Republican but are more libertarian on social issues, but the soldiers will defend all of their overlords positions. Bill Clinton once said that "Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line." That kind of sums up the passion for our respective candidates. Where I'm from neither party had candidates during this election cycle that I would consider exciting but the Republicans still fell in line behind there guys even if they are getting loads of criticism from the far-right tea party.

'Often?' - as in something that changes with time?
Are there Republicans out there who don't believe in a strictly literal interpretation of the Bible and who see truth in non-Christian faiths?
Obviously, yes. Next?
Furthermore, are there Republicans out there who are more moderate than far right conservative?
Yes. We call the worst of them RINOs.

Welcome to CF and Americal Politics, btw - where false premises and inaccurate presumptions are readily identified, quickly debunked, and easily tossed. For example: 'fundamentalist' Christians comprise but a fraction of the Republican party; Republicans who happen to be Christians too (fundamentalist or otherwise) don't all believe in a strictly literal interpretation of the Bible (in the party or anywhere else in the world for that matter) - and Republicans who happen to be Christians or happen not to be Christians see truths in other faiths too... oh stuff like, it's not good to murder, steal, commit adultery, etc.; and finally, it's ridiculous to presume Republicans are all 'far-right wingers' - just as it'd be ridiculous to presume Democrats are all far-left wingers. One day in this once-great (but no longer, thanks to leftism) nation of ours is all it takes to realize the ridiculousness of such a premise.

Did you have a point in this thread, or was your point merely to take a pot-shot at Republicans with obviously unsupportable assertions?
