Hi there,

I am new on here writing from rainy England.

I have a 6 year old boy that I am worried about. He has been assessed since he was 3 due to late talking and then it progressed on to struggling at school. No-one has come up with anything but they have said he has learning difficulties and he is more like a child of 5. The school have set up an IEP since he started and he has 1:1 for 30/40 mins a day. They have now called in a School Psychologist to observe/assess and advise the school about possible new teaching methods to prevent him from falling further behind. I am starting to get shunned by some parents and some kids don't want to play with my son because they can see he sometimes lacks understanding and is a bit immature.

His behaviour is very good, I have never experienced any tantrums, he is very affectionate, a bit sensitive (gets that from me!) and very sociable. He is also very happy and I adore him.

However, I want him to have good friends, even average at school would be fine with me and do well in life.

He is an only child because I am unable to have any more.

I feel pretty much an emotional wreck most of the time mainly because of the way other people can be and my concerns about what the future holds for him.

thanks for reading and God Bless
Caroline

Caroline,

I can't say that I know how you feel, but I will pray for you. Remember, many times in this earthly walk we feel as though we have nowhere to turn and no one to turn to, but if you are saved, Jesus Christ is always there for you. When all the world around us falls apart, Our solid foundation is Jesus Christ. rely wholly on Him and everything will work out for the Glory of God, and it may not work out how you want it to, but it will work out the best way according to God Almighty.

Sincerely Praying,
Bro. Drew

Hi Caroline,

Its great the school seems to be taking what action is can to make sure your lad is taught in ways he can benefit from. As for the socialising aspect, I checked out mencap.org.uk (I'm not allowed to do links yet, I think I'm still too new here) and if you go to the "Families" link above the main picture, they have further links to ages, Education, and Making Friends. It mentions problems with children making friends, and that other parents can be insensitive. It also says that it tends to get easier, as they they find other parents in a similar position and gain support from each other.

I'm currently studying Social Care so if there's anything specific you can't find out, I would gladly try to help.

Hope things do get better for you soon.

I'm new to praying and it still feels weird telling anyone I'll pray for them, but I will.

It's good to hear that the school is doing what they can to help your son. I know what it feels like to have other parents give you a bad feeling when your son is around their kids. My son is 14, autistic and still acts like maybe a 6 year old. It's so sad when folks get judgemental and prejudiced just because your child is 'different'. Good to hear that he hasn't had any tantrums! Keep on the positive and embrace the child that God has given you.

Hope you get some real answers soon. Once you know exactly what is going, it does get easier because you'll have other people with experience and training to help you out with your son.

Support from other understanding parents, I find, is the BEST gift. Hang onto that!

God bless!

Hi,

Not raining today!

I just wanted to say thanks for your kind support and offer of prayer.

I felt last night a real weight came off my heart and I had the deepest sleep I have had in a long time.

I do truly love my son and I am thankful for him, just some days I find it a real struggle to cope.
