How is the secular media "blindly accepting" anything? What a strange thing to say.
Headline on front page of today's The Sunday Telegraph - "Miracle Maker".

A quote from Mary MacKillop: "Do all you can with the means at your disposal and calmly leave the rest to God". An undoubtedly wise woman. Some people need to take her advice and look to God.

I'm not going to turn this into a debate about Catholic theology, but I will make 3 points.

-Don't confuse headlines in the secular media with Catholic belief. The 2 tend to be very different things.

- Don't make the mistake of presuming that asking a deceased sister to pray for us to God means that we don't go straight to God ourselves.

- Don't make the mistake of thinking that we are somehow attributing magical powers or anything to St Mary of the Cross. Catholic firmly believe that any good the comes from her intercessions come straight from God.

Blessings,

And so on Sunday, it all happens. Not that I can possibly believe any of it. I know that prayers are answered when you pray to God through Jesus in the Spirit. Not to or through anyone else. That the secular media is blindly accepting it all is very strange.
I'm sure this has to do with her being named Australias first saint. In the future it could be different if there are more.

Is there supposed to be sarcasm here? I'm really not sure but just in case the answer is no I will answer. Over my lifetime I have seen media go from a position of backing the church and providing free space to advertise (including on tv) to now when it is hard to find a story about churches where it is a positive story. I'm not wanting to get into a debate on if the stories are justified or not.

ZOO weekly went in the opposite direction and did an article where they vilified her by superimposing her head over that of a bikini girl lying down on all fours with the caption "She's begging for it". Ha, ha, ha! Try being a bit more original next time, guys! :-S

Although I no longer subscribe to Catholicism, at least she did a lot of good things for our nation and ought to be recognised for it. But did it have to take so long for the church to recognise this?

Do you know how it works in Heaven?

Eastern Orthodox belief in 1672:
God hears the Saints rather than those who are steeped in sins.
From: The Confession of Dositheus (Eastern Otrthodox)

I doubt the belief has changed.

God bless.

eastern orthodox and roman catholic are two different christian groups. That is like me quoting baptist beliefs at you and wondering why you as a pentecostal don't agree with them.

In any case there is scripture which does suggest that a more righteous person will have more effective prayer so perhaps that is what this quote you mentioned refers to and you don't fully understand it.

Thanks, you beat me to it. Sadly, I think most of the misunderstanding regarding Catholics and the Saints comes down to misunderstanding.
