geeze, talk about being in the ark ages... and you don't even LIVE in the actual dark ages...

kinda strange what you say since i have read the entire Bible & ALSO have had it read TO me at Mass virtually every day for the last several years...

yet most nonCatholics i know have not read 1/4 of it

i don't know ONE non-Catholic who has read the whole Bible

strange...

but i see that you believe what you want and no amount of discussion will change your narrow view...

The Real Presence of Christ in the Roman Catholic Church:

The first mention of the term "ark of the covenant" is in Exodus 25:8

God said "and they shall make me a sanctuary, and i will dwell in the midst of them... Thence will I give orders, and will speak to thee... It shall be a perpetual observance... the priests... were the ones sanctified to carry the ark (Deut 10, 1 Chron 15)

[God] himself will be with thee; he will not leave thee, nor forsake thee

And Solomon prayed [there]: "Is it... to be thought that God should indeed dwell upon the earth?... But have regard to the prayer of thy servant... that Thy eyes may be open upon this house night and day... and when Thou hearest, show mercy... and show them the good way"
Are you now claiming that the Catholic Church is in posession of the Ark of the Covenant?

Me? What narrow view? I'm just saying that Catholics aren't encouraged to read the Bible by themselves. You know, like why its read to you during Mass? Like, not you reading it yourself?

Anyway, lets not derail the thread over this Christine.

I submit myself for your humble purview  Took me a while, but I've read it. And the non-boring bits I've read two or three times on top of that.

I do... he was at one time studying to be a priest.

Now he is... a Wiccan High Priest. Actually, most Pagans and other Non Christians are very well-versed on the Bible and Christian teachings, more so than a lot of present and practicing Christians, because they had it forced on them growing up. Then they found their true spiritual path and followed that openly once they got out from under their parents' control.

i wouldn't put it in those words but the Real Presence is a continuation of the Ark

when i am There, i see things totally differently than i do when not There... i see truths that the devil blinds me to when out in the world (where he rules)

i can't believe this... :confused::doh:

After i just told you that i -- a devout Roman Catholic -- have read the entire Bible... you still go on about how Catholics aren't allowed to read the Bible..

geeze... the irony..

you are telling ME about the dark ages???? where have you BEEN??? who tells you this nonsense?? Why do you belive him/her?????

uh... the Church never did forbid anyone reading the Bible -- as long as it was a true version thereof. The Church is entrusted with protecting the Word of God, so if the Church said it was OK to, say, read the Mormon or JW version... well, that wouldn't be the true Church, would it?

I don't know many Catholics who know the bible well, at all, actually. Since Catholic doctrine emphasises the idea that the laity aren't to do their own, unsupervised unguided reading of it...

yes, the Church seems to have predicted what would happen in such a scenario:

a mere human would begin to think that HIS interpretation of the Bible was the correct one and the Church established by Jesus Christ himself doesn't know what its talking about... which actually DID happen.. its called Martin Luther...

and then there was Zwingli

and Calvin

and now we have the JWs and the Mormons...

and 45,000 different denominations

God is not the author of confusion... but man, apparnetly, is...

## That doesn't apply to private reading - it applies to using the Bible in a way which implies or requires that the CC's teaching is wrong. And even then, no problem arises if people are prepared to be argued out of their conclusions. This applies as much to the expert scholar who is well-acquainted with the books, as to the "average Catholic in the pew".

There is so much in the Bible, & so much room for free discussion of it, that there is far less room for collision between the reader's ideas, & the Church's teachings than might be expected. The collisions that do take place are usually between understandings of certain familiar texts - Matthew 16:13-18; Hebrews 7.25; Revelation 17:5; & various others. This leaves most of the Bible unargued-over.

What is alien to Catholicism, is the notion of private judgement. Where there is a notion of false doctrine - as there is in the OT, & much more, in the NT, private judgement does not have much place. To judge by its name, PJ is a recipe for chaos; & none of the "magisterial" forms of Protestantism - Anglicanism, Calvinism, Lutheranism - have had much time for it. It's nice as a war-cry against the tyranny of the Papal Beast :) - but harder to manage once the criers have organised themselves into Beast-free churches; for the same cry could be used against them, & was.

Oh, so I should just take your word for it? Well I am well read as well, and only read non-fiction and only then from reliable sources and my sources tell me the Catholic church was not given the scriptures, hides pedophiles, and is generally corrupt. If only they would allow masturbation and priest marriage maybe things would be better and kids would be safer. (see I can play your game of huge font and colors too!)

Cuz I don't think you saw it the first time.

hopefully your last sentence isn't sarcastic?? :)

have you thougth of taking RCIA classes at your local Ctholic Church?

anyway, God bless :)
I had to delete most of your post in order to quote you.

I don't do sarcasm. I never have. My sense of humour is more child like, if that makes sense. I believe that I can learn from many people and try not to close my mind to people who may know better than I do. It would be idiotic of me to assume that I know best or that my way is the only way. You come at a subject from a certain point of view, that to me is worth considering and trying to understand that point of view.

I took classes with a Sister when I became a catholic, not sure if that is the classes you mean or not, But I will certainly look into that. My local catholic church also has a bible class where we sit and read the bible and discuss it. I know that some on here are saying that catholics are told not to read the bible unsupervised, But I know from personal experience that this is not true. You have to understand though, that it was true at one point in history and the main problem with ALL christian groups to a certain degree is that they are stuck in there past. So most christians will say "catholics are not allowed to read there bible" "mormons have lots of wives" and so on. These things were true a long time ago, But even religions are allowed to change and grow, just don't expect your enemies to forget about your past, otherwise they wont have anything to bash you with.

Thank you and God bless you too. :)

So you'd prefer to have no right and be illiterate? Oh and abortion is a very old practice, it still took place back then, just like masturbation and fornication.

Sorry sweety but your heaven has tissue paper.

There is no devil in Wicca.

but seriously though..

the devil is in EVERYTHING... case you haven't noticed..

but especially in those things that are... not focused on Christ
