As a Soldier, I'd rather be bored with nothing to do.

You can only clean a rifle so many times before it becomes old hat. Don't worry. I hear Iran is trading oil for something other than US dollars. We'll invade there before you know it. Because er the leader of Iran is sabre rattling we have to teach him a lesson. Who knows, he might even have WMD or terrorist training camps too. Gotta get that oil trading for US dollars again, er I mean we gotta stop terrorists who hate our American freedom.

I'd rather make sure my rifle is clean, make sure I'm continously training and making sure that my Soldiers and their families are taken care of and safe.

As for Iran, we won't bomb them. I don't think Obama is going to commit political suicide for him and any other Democrat Nominee for President in the future, by going to war with Iran. They'll just let Israel take care of that issue.

It appears you are right. Yet Obama did get into several other scrapes with the military.

Is it more important to be a good "world citizen" or national citizen?

One could say that they go hand in hand, but that is a cop out.

But generally speaking, it is better to be a world citizen adn to serve the greater interests of humanity than the limited interests of a nation.

To whom should we offer our allegiance, our country or the world we share?

Well, in an offering of allegiance, definitely one's country.

I would love to say "I love all of humanity and I want us all to prosper..."

But there will be a lot of empty head nodding -- why? Because this is an empty value. It is like saying, "I love everyone as my brother and sister."

It strikes no chords; it makes no one feel that great about what you have said because certainly such a statement is false and beyond the general comprehension that we have as humans.

Pledge your allegiance to the world and you will look like a fool because you are attempting to show allegiance to something that is undefinable, far too vast and encompassing; an entity at war against itself.

Pledge your allegiance to your country, instead, because it is a limited, definable thing of which you are apart, with which you are familiar, and something that you can actually relate to.

My first allegience is to my state. You have to remember that, up until the turn of the century, people identified themselves as citizens of their state first.

The United states is not one parent entity divided up into fifty pieces (or fifty-seven pieces, for you Obama fans). The United States is a collection of fifty sovereign states.

I love my country inasfar as it represents the Constitution and the ideals upon which our Republic is founded (which, sad to say, is virtually nil these days) but unfortunately, patriotism nowadays has very little to do with a shared culture and much to do with supporting Big Daddy Government.
