I know a few high school girls who recently decided to pursue a relationship with Christ. They are looking for supplementary reading (to the Bible), and I wasn't sure what books to recommend to them first. They are all seniors (ages 17/18) in high school, so they're very smart, intelligent, and inquisitive, but they also really want to pursue this and learn more about God. Any suggestions?

Nothing like a good Bible study for them to get together for. The Life Change series is good for diving into a book of the Bible at a time. Though it does have homework.

"Mere Christianity" is both informative to someone who doesn't know about the faith and challenging to someone who does. If they're big time readers, I would recommend it. If they're not, they could find it a bit dry.

^ Ironically, the work of C.S. Lewis is actually one of the first things which inspired me to abandon Christianity. I was at Seminary, listened to "The Chronicles of Narnia" on tape, and I started thinking about how cool his fiction work was. It was my first step toward broadening my perspective and learning to think more independently/secularly.

C.S. Lewis and Philip Yancey have both good books... Of which some are mentioned in this thread. I also liked this book by Billy Graham called The Journey (I think his other works would be roughly as interesting and valuable - haven't read any though), and the plus side of it was definitely that it was really easy to approach even as a young christian.

You are a deist?!? I never thought I'd see the day. Congratulations on your intellectual journey!

Letters to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris is one I would love for people to read.

I read some Thomas Aquinas at that age it influenced my thinking a lot. C.S. Lewis has a lot of good stuff. I mean a lot would depend on exactly what they're looking for. Thomas Aquinas is pretty heavy on the hardcore reader side (difficult to read, complex concepts, translated from archaic language, many translations also use archaic language) C.S. Lewis is a little easier reading, mostly because he's more current and therefore his language is more accessible. Thomas Aquinas 5 Arguments for the existence of God is actually what brought me back to Christianity in college. I can't for the life of me remember where they actually were written though, I think I read them in a separate collection of essays and short works. There's a wealth of good material out there, but before I could make an informed suggestion I'd need to know more what you're looking for, or what they're looking for rather.
