Why couldn't they have friends and be involved in sports when home schooling Tish?

My kids are still little but involved in various community activities including sports and we live in a very rural area. I would imagine that there would be even more opportunity to do so in your area.

they could but the scholarships all come from this particular HS and the academic ones too comefrom this HS as well(they actually have a program that helps the students prepare for and enter college pretty much guaranteed)....I admit life was soooooo much more controlled when they were home although my son was horrible as a HomeSchooled student and for us life got better when he went to school, but for us it was getting pretty hard to prepare them for college and their futures out in the big world with out some help

I remember though saying to folks who sent their kids to HS why are you doing that!!! now I can see why they might have wanted to:thumbsup:

I told my kids though that this situation will change rapidly if they dont hold good grades or get into some other trouble there, or if trouble tries to find them even.... they know this is something they cannot take advantage of

Tons of college scholarships out there specifically for home schooled students. There are also programs for high school students to attend community college and get both college and high school credits for it. A home schooled friend of ours is doing that - he will have a 2 yr degree by the time he is 18 and won't have paid for any of it.

We home school through a public charter school using the k12.com curriculum - it is top notch schooling and since it is the through the public school system it is free for us. We have a certified teacher that checks in with us twice a week to make sure we are doing ok and we are free to substitute or modify things if we disagree with what is being presented.

LOL--I plum forgot about Ahavah the snail! How funny! I've had to swear off those virtual games, as I was putting waaaayyy too much time into my virtual life (like Farmville on FB--dangerous!!), and not nearly enough time into my real life.

We're totally loving hs'ing! We used Sonlight last year and plan to use it again this year if we can get the cash together for the next Core. My kids also do lots of activities...piano/violin, orchestra, softball, soccer, MOPS homeschool, and whatever else comes up that we care to fit in. I can see where it would be a problem if they wanted to play football or be in the marching band, though. I think by the time they reach high school, they should have some input on their schooling situation. I just hope they love hs'ing enough to keep at it! There's an outrageous teen pg rate at our local high school.... :(

Wags, K12 is free through our state, too, but I haven't looked into it much. Do you really like it?

my oldest did that it was good but he didnt choose to finish college he only has a few more credits to get his aa but is taking alot of time to do it since he graduated at barely 16:doh:

my other two who are in HS right now have the push from there peers, and the teachers and their counselors and there is just no room to loose track of your goals with everyone around them going in that same direction, they would have to reallllllllly hate the idea to fall thru the cracks at this school

I hope my oldest picks up where he left off someday(its been 6 years since he graduated HS, hes really smart and talented and all the folks were he works can see he has alot going for him:thumbsup:

I know I do not say much about my home life on the internet but thought my friends here on CF should know that I have a publisher for my fiction novel [action/adventure]. It is my first book. I am so excited. The publisher is reading it and says that out of thousands and thousands of submissions a year that he receives, he rarely has the time to read but maybe 4/5 of them. He has chosen to read mine. He likes what he has read so far. They say that they are working on getting it out by the end of November. I am nervous

Congrats Vis, well done - we'll all expect a complimentary copy of course.

A friend of mine has got a publisher for his MPhil dissertation though I am not sure how many he has sold. Another guy I know had his Doctoral dissertation published as a book and that is selling well. Don't think I'll publish my dissertation (only a Master's) - can't think that anyone would take the time to actually read it :)

Anyway do let us know the title and publisher when it comes out and we can have a read (unless you want to keep your real name from us!).

No.. by all means.. I will get you the info when it comes available. I believe that if you are looking for a good hanukkah gift this year, this one is good for anyone older than 8 and has all the makings of a Indiana Jones movie.

AS - wow, lots of authors coming out of the closet, now, but well done indeed.

I would appreciate reading your tome when it comes out. I have been researching the Messianic movement (in relation to the Church, Christianity and Judaism), and that would help my studies, I think. There is very little out there that relates specifically to women and the movement.

I think you mean out of the woodwork. "Out of the closet" means something else, methinks. ;)

No - it is just that certain people, for their own purposes, have taken the phrase and shouted it to the world loudly until some people begin to believe that it applies, exclusively, to that group of people; it is a perversion of the original meaning. I used the original sense of the words: to disclose, let on, divulge, reveal, unwrap, discover, bring out, break - to make known to the public information that was previously known only to a few people or that was meant to be kept a secret.

I am not responsible for perversions of language or sexuality . In a similar way (a perversion of language) I have been reported on these fora for using the word 'ass', which in English is a donkey (and appears in English versions of the Bible). Many Americans believe it is one's posterior - why I do not know, there is just no reason for that perversion of a simple name for an animal, into being a part of an American's anatomy!!!

Thanks for the invitation Tish...
It has been quite some years since I was last here regularly.

In a nutshell:
My mum passed away two and a half years ago, and my son was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome in May of 2009. He's is now eight and in a regular school.
We are, at the present time, seeking on going help for his anxieties and related issues.....but other than that, he is doing great.
We are regularly attending the only Messianic congregation here in Melbourne (Beit HaMashiach).

My son and I travelled around the world last year....and spent 10 days on the east coast of the USA.(Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.) and also visited my Dad in Spain and relatives in Paris.

Seeing some of the old regulars replying to this thread is like finding your favourite old pair of slippers in the back of the wardrobe. It's nice to see you all.

Jill, Great to see you here too. You said you're on FB.....I'd love to become FB friends with anyone who is on there and would like to accept a friendship request from me. It's a nice way to stay in touch too.

Many blessings, and Shalom
Bon

Every word you use is altered from its original use. A word's meaning is determined by its usage, not by its etymology (or even what it meant a hundred years ago). The fact is, when you tell someone to get off of their a**, it doesn't mean that they are riding a donkey. Additionally, "come out of the closet" just doesn't bear that meaning in modern language – I've at least never heard it used that way and would feel awkward to use it like that. What you're stating here flies in the face of linguistic theory as it relates to semantics.
