Isaiah 40:1-11
comfort through trust in the Lord
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto
her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her
iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of
the LORD's hand double for all her sins.
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in
the desert a highway for our God. *
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain
and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall
be made straight, and the rough places plain:
And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and
all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth
of the LORD hath spoken it.
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I
cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness
thereof is as the flower of the field:
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because
the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely
the people is grass.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the
word of our God shall stand for ever.
O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up
into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bring-
est good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength;
lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of
Judah, Behold your God!
Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand,
and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his re-
ward is with him, and his work before him. *
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall
gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in
his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are
with young. *
Isaiah 41:17-20
final restoration of Israel
When the poor and needy seek water, and there is
none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the
LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not
forsake them.
I will open rivers in high places, and foun-
tains in the midst of the valleys: I will make
the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land
springs of water.
I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shi*tah
tree, and the myrtle, and the iol tree; I will set in
the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree
together.
I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the
pine,and the box tree together:
That they may see, and know, and consider, and
understand together, that the hand of the LORD
hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath
created it.
Isaiah 42:14-16
the servant comes to glorify the Lord
Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift
up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth
inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing,
let them shout from the top of the mountains.
Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare
his praise in the islands.
I have long time holden my peace; I have been
still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like
a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at
once.
I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry
up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers
islands, and I will dry up the pools.
And I will bring the blind by a way that they
knew not; I will lead them in paths that they
have not known: I will make darkness light be-
fore them, and crooked things straight. These
things will I do unto them, and not forsake
them.
Isaiah 43:14-21
the Lord the only Redeemer
Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One
of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon,
and have brought down all their nobles, and the
Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.
I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Is-
rael, your King.
Thus saith the LORD, which maketh a way in the
sea,and a path in the mighty waters;
Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the
army and the power; they shall lie down together,
they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are
quenched as tow.
Remember ye not the former things, neither con-
sider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall
spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even
make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the
desert.
The beast of the field shall honour me, the dra-
gons and the owls: because I give waters in the
wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give
drink to my people, my chosen.
This people have I formed for myself; they shall
shew forth my praise.
Isaiah 48:20,21
Israel's unfaith rebuked
Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the
Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye,
tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth;
say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
And they thirsted not when he led them through
the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of
the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and
the waters gushed out.
There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.
Isaiah 49:8-13
Israel will be restored to Zion
Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have
I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I
helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give
thee for a covenant of the people, to establish
the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate her-
itages;
That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth;
to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves.
They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures
shall be in all high places.
They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall
the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath
mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs
of water shall he guide them.
And I will make all my mountains a way, and my
highways shall be exalted.
Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these
from the north and from the west; and these from
the land of Sinim.
Sing, O heavens;and be joyful O earth; and break
forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath
comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his
afflicted.
Isaiah 51:9-11
the faithful are called to courage
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD;
awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations
of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and
wounded the dragon?
Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the
waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths
of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?
Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return,
and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting
joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain
gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall
flee away.
Isaiah 55:12-13
a free offer of mercy for all
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth
with peace: the mountains and the hills shall
break forth before you into singing, and all the
trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree,
and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle
tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for
an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
John 14:6
Jesus is the Way
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth,
and the life: no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me.
May the Holy Spirit lead, guide, and direct ... may ears and eyes be open ... in Jesus perfect name ... Amen.
