Eastern Orthodox
Hi,
im new here,so forgive me if this post is in the wrong forum.
Ive only recently felt a calling,i am Greek Orthadox. Now our churches are very traditional,i have only attended a couple of times,im Ukranian(born in the UK) and i hope god isnt going to tell me off for this-but the services are about 3 hrs long, only elderley people attend, and its difficult to understand what the priest is talking about(they tend to sing the sermon) i want to attend a Christian church, but i have absolutley no idea what kind of church im able to go to,i dont want to convert i want to stay faithful to my religion, all the denominations are really confusing me!. Thanks in advance,

Angela x :)

Hi angel,

You don't have to "convert". A Christian is a Christian. However, the Greek Orthodox denomination is a traditional one, which holds on to a lot of traditional things like robes, incense and other things that really only appear in the Old Testament in the bible, not the New Testament church.

Anyway, my suggestion is to look up churches in the phone book in your area, and visit a few, and see which ones you are comfortable with. It depends - if you want to remain traditional, try the Methodist or Baptist churches ( mind you some Baptist churches are charismatic). Or you could try Pentecostal/ Charismatic churches if you want more modern upbeat atmospheres.

Anyway, that is just my 2 cents! :) God bless!

pentecostal all the way baby!
naaa.

yeah these denominations do get confusing, sometimes ya just gotta follow god, and forget everything else.

i rarely hear a preacher preach something that i agree 100%with.
you just gotta take the meat, and spit out the bones.
go where you get fed. if you dont totally agree thats ok. i love my pastor, but sometimes i do not agree 100%.
though he has fed me and truely effected my life for the better.
god can use anything to feed you if your hungry, hes bigger than denominations.
though do be careful, and be led by the word of god.
there are some denominations that i believe really can cripple believers.

what do greek orthodox believe?

You have a good question there. I have found that birds of a feather flock together. I have gone to the most boring Church in the world one time but I realized that those folk there, loved God as much as anyone. I also went to a church on the other end of the scale. I found one that is in between and fits my style. I love it here.

You do need a church that is very into Bible teaching. This is the feeding part of the church. Worship is one thing, Bible teaching another and ministry to the lost another. Find one that is well rounded and try it out.

That's my best advise. Let us know how it goes.

Hi, Angelwithwings!

Welcome to Christian Forums. I'm glad you decided to post your concerns here.

Denominations of the Christian faith have their own creeds that are not necessarily part of the doctrines of the Holy Bible. The doctrines are the essential part of the Bible that must be upheld. Here are some of the doctrines:

1. There is one God, existent in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit.

<font color="ff6347"><b>For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, <i>the</i> Man Christ Jesus . . .</font></b> (1 Tim. 2:3-5)

2. Jesus is the Son of God.

<font color="c160c3"><b>For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.</font></b> (John 3:16)

3. Jesus was born of a virgin.

<font color="e45e9d"><b><i>Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,"</i> which is translated, 'God with us.'"</font></b> (Matt. 1:23)

4. Every man is a sinner and is in need of God's forgiveness.

<font color="43676a"><b>As it is written:
There is none righteous, no, not one;
There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
</font></b> (Rom. 3:10, 11)

5. Jesus died and rose again to forgive man's sin.

<font color="c22217"><b>For I delievered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,</font></b> (1 Cor. 15:3, 4)

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)

Those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior will have everlasting life.

The doctrines of the Holy Bible are essential to the Christian faith whereas creeds are only important to that particular denomination. I hope this helps.

God bless you.

Pat
