From what I see on the Discovery Chanel and hear from people I am scared. I heard the pain is Terrible, the wrost pain you will ever experience in our life. Men are so lucky , they don't have to go through what women goes through . LOL

I'm not looking forward to it. I'm thinkin..if I have bad mentstral cramps..are my labor pains going to be hell too? Also,I have a weird stomach..some women are sick for months at a time and have to be hooked up to an IV for food. I hate nausea. But..alas..I'll just have to deal with it. I won't mind being given pain meds. Load me up!!^_^

It is all relative.

I was in labor for 16 hours before asking for pain medication. To me the hard part was the physical exertion, not the pain. Being in labor was a far cry from the worst pain I've experienced. There has definately been alot worse. I think it is more the duration of the pain rather than the intensity of it that makes it so difficult.

Everyone's pain tolerance varies, but I can name several situations in which I have been in much worse pain.

For me the reluctance in wanting to have more babies is because of the c-sections we discovered (20 hours into labor) that I have to have. It scares me a great deal to have a spinal block.

FYI, recovery from c-sections was way more painful than being in labor. So are knee injuries and burns and migrains.

And many women who have had more than one pregnancy and childbirth say that each time it was different.

as for drugs during labour... as much as I hate pain, I'm not sure i'll bother with them. My mother has often told me that it makes giving birth much more difficult because you can't actually feel if you're pushing when you're supposed to be pushing.

i think its one of those decisions i'll make my mind up on though when the time actually comes to make that decision.

faith: I'm sorry you have to deal with that pain right now. i hope its not too much longer before you can go back on Lyrica

No, I'm looking forward to it. No drugs, no hospitals, no unnecessary intervention. I can birth my own babies. I am a woman. I think it'll be a very powerful experience.

have fun with that.

I know God designed it so it's good and all, but ouch!! Saying that, I don't like the thought of being pregnant and giving birth all that much but I think the real hard stuff comes afterwards when it's just all go. Now that scares me!

Yep, not as much as I used to be but I am still afraid. I'm rubbish with pain and am such a wimp, a lot of women say that knowing the pain is necessary and will end in a good outcome helps them to bear it, however I don't know if that would be the case for me. lol

yeah i worry about that! i guess though that once you've started, you can't really stop so there's nothing for it but to grit your teeth! people keep telling me that apparently redheads feel pain more. except if they are being electrocuted, in which case they feel it less, weirdly. so i guess that doesn't bode well for me, unless i get them to electrocute me to distract me from the worse pain... or something..? :sorry:

or maybe i'll just squeeze my husband's hand so hard his pain distracts me instead :ebil: :nooo:

im joking. i think :p

redheads feel more pain? :ahah: Sorry I don't believe that. lol

I just googled "redheads feel more pain" and apparently it's true. Good thing it only applies to natural redheads, in case I want to start coloring my hair again. :sorry: :D

"Researchers believe redheads are more sensitive to pain because of a mutation in a gene that affects hair color. In people with brown, black and blond hair, the gene, for the melanocortin-1 receptor, produces melanin. But a mutation in the MC1R gene results in the production of a substance called pheomelanin that results in red hair and fair skin. The MC1R gene belongs to a family of receptors that include pain receptors in the brain, and as a result, a mutation in the gene appears to influence the body’s sensitivity to pain. "

Yes, sometimes I am afraid. I don't get cramps when I'm on my period, and if I do they are very light. So I wonder if that's a bad thing... I hope not. I mean people say giving birth is like having really bad cramps. But I don't get cramps!

When my mom had my borther she was given an epidural. She said the doctor wasn't very carful and hit a nerve that sent a shock throughout her body. Ever since then she has had terrible back pain. This scares me, so I don't know if I'll use any medications.

Other times I can't wait to be a Mother... I like day dreaming about the day me and my husband will get to hold our baby for the first time ^_^. It'll be beautiful and will probably make me forget about the pain. Of course the only one who knows my future is God, so will see what happens. :)

When my mom had me she said she felt NOTHING what so ever. I just came out without the use of any pain killers. I hope to be as lucky as her. :p

I just googled "redheads feel more pain" and apparently it's true. Redheads typically need more anesthesia than people of other hair colors. Good thing it only applies to natural redheads, in case I want to start coloring my hair again. :D

aw dangit :boh:

although, does this mean we should get more rewards for being brave at the dentist/doctor etcetc..? :p

If and when I do have children, I plan on going through a natural birth. No pain meds. I feel if my ancestors could give birth to 16 and 11 children respectively sans pain meds, I'm sure I can do it at least once. :D

This, definitely.

I'm with you! The attitude of giving birth nowdays bothers me.. it's become more like another medical procedure than having a baby. Not all the time, but moreso it seems.
But I want to physically (and mentally) be stronger and healthier first :D OH and have a husband!!! :ok:

I'm more grossed out by the whole thing than scared! In highschool they showed a video of a woman giving birth in health class. I almost passed out. I knew then I never wanted children :(

You know you have the option of not watching the whole ordeal, lol. I didn't! They asked me if I wanted a mirror and I was like HECK NO lol.
