I go clubbing once a month. I find that if you go with the right group of people, and make sure you have at least one other Christian in your group, who isn't going to be getting drunk, then clubbing is great!

ImperialPhantom, while i've seen many people grinding on the dance floor, I do not agree with what they do, and i've never done this myself in all the times i've been out clubbing. Again, I think it comes down to who you're out clubbing with. I have a great time dancing with a small group of friends :)

I really hardly ever go "clubbing" actually I do it like once a year, maybe twice. Why? I just don't like it. Rather talk to people than listen to some random noise going boom boom boom all the time and than have people call it music. And if it is something with lyrics it's even worse. Besides I don't drink alcohol, next to the fact that I don't think we should be drunk, I don't like it and it's been disadvised to me from a medical perspective, and drinking/tanking is just what all the youth seems to be doing these days when going "clubbing". I think I'll pass on that one. I personally prefer to just chill somewhere and talk, have a few laughs, much more fun, but that's just my opinion.

Basically what I'm asking is whether it's ok for Christians to go clubbing or not? I know of some who are against it, while others are for it (including a school chaplain). So...any thoughts on whether it's ok for Christians to go clubbing or not? :)

What exactly are we clubbing? Baby seals?

I would never do that kind of cold-blooded harm to God's creation and I'm not going to let Sarah Palin convince me otherwise.

I think Palin's more interested in slaughtering wolves.

Still, club sandwiches, not seals.

Not all clubs just play the techno/Euro trance/House drivel that... every other club does. (I can't stand a lot of club music either, so I commiserate with you.)

You might have to search it out, but they always have a Madonna video dance party during Pride Week in this neck of the woods, and there's at least one DJ here who specializes in Girl Band, Madonna, and Prince parties.

The only club I've been to recently was a small country-line dancing club that my friend and her fiance invited me to. I've never been to one but I have to say, it was a lot of fun. The people were friendly, the music was clean and for the most part people were generally aware of one another and not walking around like drunken idiots. Granted, some where, but not the majority. I learned some line dances, had a drink, talked for a while with my friends then left.. all before 10pm. haha.

If you go to a club and find yourself being tempted into things you don't think you should do or feel uneasy about, chances are good it's something you shouldn't be doing and if you worry it will hinder your relationship with God, then don't do it. If the people you're with are truly your friends then they'll be understanding if you decide to leave or not do something at the club because you feel uncomfortable.

I can't see why Christians would be forbidden to go to clubs... clubs are fun :)

Going to a night club doesn't mean you have to get drunk and go sleep with some random girl you were dancing with. You can go to a club without sinning...

It is hard not to lust at all those smexy females though haha :p

Personally I am almost 23 but I have not gone clubbing. This is probably because I am not really outgoing nor do I want to get drunk/wasted. I am on medication that I take before I go to bed so it is NOT a good idea to drink at night. I also don't think I will enjoy it very much. I might just be standing in a corner sipping a soda not being in the action. I also don't know what I would there. Lust would be an issue, not that it isn't already as a guy, but many girls dress revealing in clubs obviously.

I live in Toronto as well and I have heard of many stories of fights happening for no reason at clubs (over girls) or people get angry if yo bump into them by accident. I don't want to be part of that atmosphere. But although I do plan on going clubbing just to see what it's like. I know a Christian who does not go clubbing because he does not feel like he can be a good witness in that environment. I have a friend who said he went there to share the gospel and the people who weren't wasted... however few, would listen to him. Don't know how well it went though.

I live in Toronto too, but in all seriousness, this doesn't happen that often. You just have to have your wits about you, as one would anywhere or wherever one would go.

Personally I'm just not comfortable with the types of places I believe you guys are describing. Once or twice a year like for New Years or so I'll go to one of the busier places downtown or one of the clubs around the casino. We used to have a Jillian's and I loved that but its gone. I generally stick to this small cigar bar in a strip-mall or this great little working-class bar my neighbor owns with karaoke a few times a week. I will hang out in the restaurant bars like Buffalo Wild Wings, Hooters, Old Chicago, or my favorite Bar Louie with my coworkers but usually only during football season.

These topic caught my attention really fast. I've have been on the fence and confused as well. Being a Christian and going to the club has always been a question in my mind. I am 20 yrs old and a sophmore in college. I have always wanted to experience the club life and see what it is all about, however being that my parents are strict and are opposed to the club life, they have never allowed me to go. So, I brought the question up to my Sunday school teacher and he lead me to John 15:19 "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. In a nutshell he said that being that we are Christians we are to be "Christ Like" and because we are in this world we are not to subject ourselves to things of the world that could hender our relationship with HIM and cause us to fall into further temptations of the world. With that being said it really did not register into my mind. I still felt/ feel that way of experiencing the club life becuase I am young and in college. Having strict parents who are highly regarded in my church and dont allowing me to do much does backfire. Because it has caused me to go behind their backs and go to clubs. However going there, one can get pulled into some temptation due to what others may be doing. I guess it truly does depend on a person and what they may believe is okay to do. But when you look at it from a perspective of would Jesus go to one and if he did what would he do, I can only imagine that it would not be a place he'd go to.

ive gone clubbing a few times. Its good fun as long as your with a good bunch of people. first time i went with my older cousin and all of his friends. At first it can be a bit intimidating but you can just do what i did, which is be friendly to everyone, including strangers. I remember walking up to these two burly looking guys who were just sitting round and said "wow, you guys are huge, you go gym?" after that they were friendly to me and i wasnt intimidated by them no more lol. All the girls look mint too, i mean seriously is that even legal? lol anyway, i danced a bit, but didnt drink nothing but water, i still had a great time and ill probably be heading out again. If i were you, id recommend it, but dont expect to be witnessing to people there, unless you really feel like its needed. Coz most of the people there, only want to drink, hookup and dance. I only did the latter but even so, it was a blast.

Why would you want to go clubbing? I mean, the Bible tells us not to be yoked with unbelievers....well, unless we are trying to witness to them, and how many people do you know that goes in clubs to witness in the first place?

Then, you have to think about what temptations are in the clubs...you have alcohol and possibly drugs for one thing. Yes, Jesus drank, but He sure didn't make it a habit of going out to get drunk. Then you have the way women/men dress in clubs...you'll have the temptation of lust to deal with, on top of the alcohol that will lower the inhibitions.

And doesn't the Holy Spirit convict you when you express interest in going to clubs? He warns us not to do things that will grieve Him.

I am dying to know when Studio 54 became the paradigm for all nightclubs. I just went Saturday, and beyond some casual bantering/flirting with a man who claimed to be a male stripper, nothing particularly wild was going on.

Believe me, the majority of people at clubs are not doing blow in the bathroom.
