Yeah - it's a beautiful thing ain't it? I'm just happy I made it through to the other side without killing someone!

Menopause is done for me, but the grave is still a ways off. I personally am quite content now, no more PMS and spending a small fortune on "products" :). Only drawback for me is the stray hairs growing off my face to greater lengths than the hair on my head will grow, LOL!

I remember the episode of "All In the Family," when Edith was going through the change. Archie called the doctor to find out what he could do about it, because she was acting irrational. The doctor wrote a prescription for some relaxation pills. Archie thought they were for his wife, but when the Meat-Head read the bottle, they were for Archie.

Hopefully your hubby has a good hobby. :D

I was sweating all night long and in the a.m. I told my husband the a.c. must be busted. he said 'are you kidding, it's freezing in here'

This is what I have to look forward to in life. Menopause and the grave.

I think I'm going through it as well. I'm not having hot sweats but my monthlies are becoming irregular and I am having mood swings. I don't want to take HRT but does anyone here know what natural supplements, foods etc are best for us ladies of a certain age.:p:mmh:

I found the five years or so before menopause (called "perimenopause") were far worse than menopause itself.

When menopause comes you appreciate it then, because it's so much better than what you've been experiencing in the previous five years.

If your indicated age is correct, I believe you'd be a bit early for MP!

Nope! Peri-menopause can occur as early as 35. I was Post-menopausal when I was 44!

Many factors can influence the onset.

I refused the idea of taking HRT when I was going through it. And after awhile a woman's body gets used to the fact that estrogen has been curtailed because of menopause. There are plant estrogens that work. I know I was able to find actual products that do take the edge off the symptoms of female menopause. But I don't think there's anything for "male menopause"--you know the time after the guy has made it to a certain age, usually about 40, that he feels that he must "recapture" his youth. Talk about "mood swings"! When he goes through it, it's just "white water rafting" for everyone near him. :D

I'm nearing the end of the HF's. They started in mid 40's, and were relatively mild at first. After 5 years, they started with a vengeance, and last that way for another 5 years. But everybody is different, so you'll just have to go through it one day at a time.

And all those homeopathic remedies....never worked for me. I wasn't about to go the HRT route, so I just kept offering it up for the souls in purgatory.

Hi Michelle!

I feel your pain.... I'm getting them while pregnant. Every time I have to turn on the fan while sleeping, I have to make a cocoon of blankets around my husband and kind of put a blanket over his head... Poor thing freezes while I feel like I'm sitting in a sauna.

No caffeine, or chocolate for you! :p

My dear wife is in the PM phase right now, and has been for about two years. Yes, she does have the hot flashes; but they last only a few minutes. Her "monthly's" are now more like "semi-annuals" now. She is dealing with it very well; and credits a balanced diet high in soy protein.

From my POV, all is well; no PMS for the past two years!:thumbsup::)

She has always been a bit concerned about her weight, and since the onset she has found that a bit harder to manage. It matters not to me, she is more beautiful than the day I married her, and we seem to love each other more and more as time progresses.

God made us the way we are; rejoice and be glad!

Well, at the time I smoked - which I've since learned helps deplete Estrogen much quicker! So unless you smoke I would be too concerned :) and if you smoke yet another reason to quit!:D

think i'm going through the change

..Tell your husband I'm sorry.
I shall.

here's a lil story for you in the meantime:

It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are oversensitive, and there's nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.

My name is Ron. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Carol Anne. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Carol Anne to get a full-time job, along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work

Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club, so eating out is not an option in the evening. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door. She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner.

I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, Boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two, or even three days. That way, she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points..

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half-finished mowing the yard. I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man.. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me, too.

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Carol Anne. I'm not saying that showing this much patience & consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, Guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Ron died suddenly on January 31 of a perforated rectum. The police report says he was found with a Calloway extra-long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby. His wife Carol Anne was arrested and charged with murder. The all-woman jury took only 10 minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defence that Ron, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.
