Okay, there is a serious typo- I meant to say thanks to the children whose fathers were killed- not thanks for those whose fathers killed (Lord forgive me)

if this can be moderated edited please change to: "...who died for my freedom"

Thanks young heros, your fathers are not forgotten.

Thank you to the wives, girlfriends, parents, grandparents, and children who have lost their loved ones in the wars. Thank you to all the families who sacrifice, including the British, the Canadians, and others from countries outside the USA who stand with our country at this time. Mostly, thanks be to God the Father who see's the hearts of all mankind and who will one day wipe away the tears of those who suffer, and reward those who serve Him, with eternal salvation. May God continue to protect the soldiers who currently serve, and bless the families who are missing them.

My great grandfather was alive when my grandfather died of cancer. Seeing him cry at the funeral of his son was probably the saddest thing I've ever seen.

Maybe we should thank the politicians who keep these wars going in the interest of tracking down evil terrorists who we have to kill because they hate the freedoms we have in America.

As a Vietnam veteran with multiple tours I can tell you that this is on the very edge of being cruel and condescending. I thought more of the Hippy that spit on me than I ever did most of the Americans that came along 10 and 20 years after the fact with all their meaningless mutterings. These you Mothers and children have had their very existence, forever destroyed. What they need are not empty platitudes, they need someone to just sit with them and allow them to cry.

Will you folks ever learn? America's warriors and the people that love them love you so much, that like Christ, we are willing to die for you. In grief, words are so disingenuous.

you are entitled to your own opinion

i dont know what it is exactly you want

my father was shot to death in vietnam and no one gave a damn about our mother or us kids except the hippies who wrote my mother letters of 'sympathy' calling our father a babykiller

sorry if you think this is 'empty platitude'- any motive you attribute to me or emotion you attribute to our familys suffering is of your own contrivance

btw- my mother did more and deserves more for having to raise us kids by herself after that tragic day which seems so long ago than you or my father ever did in vietnam

i certainly hope that in some way the sufferings of these children somehow are not in competition with your service in vietnam- but i really cannot fathom your sentiments and seeing as to how i was one of those children myself you attribute needs too- i want to point out you do not speak on my behalf

Thanks to those who lost their loved ones in military service.

Thanks, also, to all those whose parents came home scarred and wounded, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I heard a very sad story in my own family last year. I had always known that this relative had been divorced and left with three small children to raise alone, many years ago (she did an outstanding job...) What I didn't know was that her ex-husband had had PTSD. They didn't know very much about PTSD after WWII. They didn't know how to help someone who had gone off to serve in Europe and come home with serious anger management issues...

The only solution for her and her children was to leave the situation.

So special prayers for all families with loved ones suffering from PTSD. May they recognize their need for healing, and may there be sufficient VA resources to help them heal.

Hi Bill, you are right, however, words is all we have. All we have is words, all we can do is say how sorry we are and how much we do appreciate the sacrifice. Nothing can fill the void, nothing but God of course.

We aren't just talking about Vietnam vets, but Gulf war vets, WWII vets, Korean Vets, ALL vets. All who have served, and especially those who have served in war, deserve whatever we can do for them.

Losing a spouse or parent through war is a horrible thing. But calling the family's lives "destroyed" implies that without that person, the family is useless, meaningless. I'm sure the widows who raised children alone do not feel that their lives were destroyed. Changed, yes, and not in a good way. But not destroyed.

I'd rather have "disingenuous" words and platitudes than total silence.

God bless all our vets and active duty warriors. I wish I could give you more than words, and my utmost respect. You certainly deserve it.

Bill, Perhaps, if you truly think more of the hippy who spit on you than those of us trying to do right by our soldiers, you should search your heart for bitterness.

I think these women and children need their husbands and fathers. Maybe its time to support the troops by bringing them home.
