My son just turned 2 on May 1st (yay!) and his up and coming well baby check up tomorrow afternoon has me thinking about his vaccines and the ones that we've missed. He's behind due to my lack of faith in his pediatrician. He hasn't been on schedule in quite some time, actually. I stopped letting the doctor give them because I needed to do research to ensure I was doing the right thing for my son, I just don't trust that darn doctor and I was so confused. Sometimes I still am. I think the recommended schedule is too much for my sons little body to handle...for any childs body to handle...I think it's like pumping them up with chemicals. I do believe in vaccinating, but I think they need to be more spread out. A lot more spread out.
I'm curious about other moms and what they've done for their children when it comes to their vaccines. Do you follow the recommended schedule or do you follow a different schedule or do you not do any vaccines? Why or why not?
This is not a debate :|. I'm sure there have been other conversations like this, but I haven't noticed any while I've been a member of the parents section. I'm just curious about what other moms think about vaccines and what immunization schedule they follow.

Thank you! Just post what you do when it comes to immunizations. Again, no debating!

We selectively vax... IMO, a decent book is Dr. Sears' The Vaccination Book. It seems to be the most balanced I've seen so far. (I don't agree with everything he says, but it has a good balance of information, both pro & con, for each vax.)

Excuse me that I'm not a mom as you ask, but there are alternatives to going cold turkey altogether.

All doctors are not the same, and you might consider getting second or even 3rd opinions from other doctors in your area. It would only require one consultation visit each. For recommendations, try asking some of the other parents in your church (that is, if your doc doesn't also happen to go to your church).

WE didn't vax wit any of ours. Buncha bad stuff in some of those medicines. Read all the RESEARCH you can from unbiased positions on each side an then pray pray pray bout it and see where God leads you.

For us, somtimes the cure is far worse then the disease after readin what's in the stuff an the like.

DS is not vaccinated at all. We do not intend to vaccinate him.

Our decision was based on much research and thought. Vaccination IS a medical procedure with the possibility of VERY severe consequences, even death. Vaccine reactions are more common than most think, because most doctors write off vaccine reactions and never actually report them (which is illegal, but they do it anyway so as to "protect" the vaccine agenda and profits). Vaccines contain neurotoxins. Why would I put that in my child's body? I also believe vaccines can or do cause SIDS, autism and other neurological disorders, allergies, etc.

I was going to selectively vaccinate. The reason I decided to do none at all is because of how doctors hide vaccine reactions. Also, because of how much profit the big pharma companies are making and why they are trying so hard to protect the vaccine agenda when it is clear that they are dangerous.

I also do not believe they are reliable. Children still get the diseases they are vaccinated against. The decrease in diseases and death was not due to vaccines, but due to better hygiene and living conditions. Vaccines do more harm than good, IMO.

In addition, the statement "we are traded measles and mumps for cancer" comes to mind.

Lastly, I believe God warns us against vaccines and supporting corrupt companies. I believe God made us with a functioning immune system and it is a lack of faith to try and tamper with that.

We vaccinate on schedule, save for MMR which we delay. :)

 I've missed you :)

My daughter is 4 and we vaccinate selectively. She's going to be starting Pre-K this year so I'll have to see what they say about what shots she's supposed to have.

We do not vaccinate. We were wary of vaccines before having kids, and didn't get vaccinated ourselves, or vaccinate our pets.
At first we weren't sure if we would just delay and then selectively vax, but now we are comfortable with our decision not to. If I were to ever change my mind, I would definitely wait until at least 2 years of age, and then space them out.

we vaccinate on schedule with the exception of the varicella shot..we don't get that one for our kids..we almost didn't get the mmr for our son at 12 months cause he reacted to egg at 9 months..but after researching, info said that even severe allergies to egg rarely react to it, so i made sure to have the benadryl with us, and waited extra long in the waiting room after, and he was fine..

to the statement that GOd made us with a functioning immune system and we should't tamper with it..just have a question (not trying to step on toes, i seriously want to inderstand)...God made us a functioning immune system before the world was fallen..now there is disease in the world...ppl who get vaccines get FAR fewer, if any, of the diseases they are protected against...i don't understand how it's a lack of faith to take a medication to stay healthier? to protect the temple which is our body, that God gave us..don't see how it's different from taking folic acid when pregnant or giving a flinstones vitamin to my kids? maybe it's different here in canada..i've had US friends say their kids get several shots at once, here the most my kids have ever received was 2, albeit they're combined, but at least it's less pokes..but don't know if there are other differences?

if every good thing comes from God, and medicine cures and saves people's lives, or prevents illness..how can that not be from God? If God uses insulin to save diabetics, or surgery to save appendicitis, or blood thinners to save people with heart and clotting issues...how is using medicine, ie vaccines, going against God's will when he wants good for us, including health? (again not trying to start something just trying to understand; we're all entitled to our opinions and choices)

We vaccinate on schedule and our daughter is doing fine. I know some people who don't but we figured that we had all the vaccines and so did everyone else our age and we don't know anyone who was harmed by the practice. Perhaps our schedule is different in Canada...
I am thankful that there is a chicken pox vaccination now as I developed bell's palsy as a child from the disease. It went away but the doctors weren't sure weather or not the left side of my face would be permanently paralyzed. That is not a chance I am willing to take with my little girl. I don't, however, believe a child needs a flu shot. There are some illnesses that are just a part of life and as long as her immune system is healthy, I see no reason to vaccinate.

You can sign exemptions for them. They can't force you to get any immunizations. :)

My 7 month old has been vaccinated on schedule, and continues to be.
I had an uncle who almost died from Polio when he was little. And I have seen dogs suffer and also die from preventable diseases.
I have a nephew who has autism, but I don't believe it had anything to do with vaccines.

I've researched the possibilites, but have still chosen to vaccinate on schedule.
My child has no known allergies, nor has had any reactions to any vaccinations, and I trust my pediatrician. If any of those three things were different, then I very likely would have a different conclusion about givng him vaccinations.

My kids are vaccinated on schedule. Today there is a headline in a California newspaper talking about the whooping cough epidemic going on there right NOW. Nearly 1000 children have it, and 5 babies have died from it. The article states the cause is from undervaccinated or non vaccianted children and how highly contagious it is...
Not my kids, the risk of disease, especailly in these days where so many people are refusing to protect their children and others is far greater than the potential side effects of the vaccines imo.
