I believe the baptism in the Spirit is a secondary thing subsequent to salvation so people can be saved, have a desire to read the word and pray but never have been baptised in the spirit.

To me a better indicator would be moving in one or more of the gifts of the spirit. I also believe speaking in tongues is an indicator of this so would expect people who have been baptised in the spirit to speak in tongues.

IKTCA - if you do not believe that Holy Spirit baptism is subsequent to salvation , then should you be displaying WoF icon. The WoF statement of faith for this forum states that Holy Spirit baptism is a secondary event. I am not trying to be controversial (or get rid of you - you seem a decent guy!) but it just seems odd to me to be stating you are part of a certain group, yet disagree with some of their crucial beliefs.

i can say that all of the pastors at our church have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Our denom only ordains people who have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Our church membership is very large, so i can't give you a percentage, but we do have classes available to take regarding receiving the baptism.

There are over 20,000 members at out church. I can't know the percentage that are baptised in the Spirit, but we promote it and teach it continually, and the invitation to receive is given in every service. I would venture that at least 80-90% are Spirit filled.
That said, when one receives this experience, it is still necessary to maintain the Spirit filled life. In other words, you have to stir up that gift, otherwise, you can go on to be as carnal as you were before.

I've seen many people, like myself be greatly affected by the infilling of the Spirit, and I developed a greater hunger for spiritual things. I've seen other people be gloriously filled, and then grow cold again.

When it comes to spiritual things, there is no getting by on yesterdays manna, and being Spirit filled will not cause you to achieve any status in God. We require many re-fillings after that initial baptism. A lot of Christians lack the discipline or desire to press in.
Being Spirit filled and speaking in tongues brings an awesome dynamic to the Christian walk. But these days, it seems many "pentecostal" people know little about it.

That's hard to say because I go to church of about 1,000. I dare say though, that the vast majority do to some degree. I'd say about 20% are totally awesome, rooted and grounded, beautiful spirit-filled people that make me think, "I am among these?"

We have some truly awesome people in our church.

I am curious to know how many (number or percentage) have been baptized of the Holy Spirit at your church. Use the desire to read the Bible and to pray as the gauge. Thanks.
Rupert

Your question is faulty in its logic. Your question is like this asking a restaurant manager to gauge the interest of people for eating steak by how much shrimp they eat.

Rupert do you believe the Bible?

Not sure I can answer that. I currently attend a baptist fellowship where many people love to read their bibles and pray but I know for a fact they have not been bsptised in the spirit. Not sure that's a good indicator.

Anyway, I'd say about 10-15% at the most.

Hi Heather:wave:

It must have it's challenges fellowshipping in a baptist church, but it's opportunities as well? I've visited a Baptist Church a few times and am curious.

:)

Like a lot of denominations, the baptist church has extremes at both ends of the spectrum. Our fellowship is probably going to split soon as we now have a spirit filled pastor but a number of the congregation are not of that inclination!!

My real prayer for many baptists is that they would be set free and released from the spirit of religion that they are tightly bound by.

By the way, if you ever want to visit you would be made welcome, lismore.

thanks for the invitation Heather:wave:

I was asking because I've been looking for a church for many months now, after exploring them all, a big baptist church seems to be the best *the only* reasonable option around here.

If it is quite a large fellowship then I think you would probably find some spirit filled believers in there. I thin k the larger churches are often more charismatic than many of the smaller fellowships who are trying to cling on to the past. Let me know how you get on. x

Hi Heather:wave:

Seems to be going well, will hang-out there for the forseeable future. It is quite a large fellowship for around here, a few hundred on Sunday mornings.

Here is the website if you want to take a looksee:

Central Baptist Church, Dundee, Scotland - Homepage

I was despairing for a while of finding a reasonable church:)
