Some? I'd agree with that classification for nearly all Mexican restaurants in the US, especially once you get away from the border states. The aforementioned chef considered any restuarant that used sour cream as not authentic. Obviously that wouldn't be the only reason but her opinion seemed to be that if the place couldn't even use Mexican Crema then they've caved to making the dish more 'American' and less authentic.

Believe it or not, there is actually a Ukrainian Orthodox parish in the heart of Little Italy (used to be Italian Catholic) on Broome Street that I want to check out one of these days. Lunch in China town followed by dessert in Little Italy after Liturgy would be ideal.
Isn't it about time for another derailment into the subject of classic rock?

Hard to beat Led Zeppelin.

Chinatown Ice Cream Factory
It's pretty much around the corner from anywhere you are in Little Italy. The black sesame ice cream is amazing, so is the almond cookie, and the lychee.
This is why my wife and I cook out of The Sliver Spoon. It is genuinely authentic (as it was / is a popular cookbook in Italy - kind of like the Red and White cookbook from Better Homes and Gardens is to American cooking).
