John 11:35

"Jesus wept."

The thought of Jesus weeping over our pain and trials, considering His ultimate sacrifice, is profoundly humbling and inspirational.

A lot comes to my mind, but what I go to most often in times of trouble is typically psalm 23.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

I love it!

1 John 4:15-19 - it encompasses a lot I think

15If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. 16And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 17In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. 18There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 19We love because he first loved us.

Hebrews 12:2-3

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.
I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion therefore I will wait for Him.'
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him; It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord."

John 14:1-3

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Provers 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path."

John 15:13, 14:

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

I think the words that really hit home for me are in verse 14...ye are my friends,IF ye do whatsoever I command you.

2 Corinthians 6: 4-10

Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.


This verse has "followed me" around for most of my life. I've had it given to me in plaques. I've had it written into cards for me. It's been everywhere, and at every turn I just saw black text. My take on it was "Just another verse in that impossible to read/understand book that proves nothing more than an overdramatized faith that could be explained away as a life lived from mere positive thinking. Blessings were formed by individuals and there were only a few that could achieve a positive outlook 24/7."

It had no real relevance to me then up until this past year, and guess what....this verse popped up again. Only this time....mm

I can't think of just one verse that would expose a light on the fullness of God and His desire for you. This one though for me, feeds into a natural human tendency...curiosity. "For I know the plans I have for you" ---> that right there just draws me in. To see that this proclaimed God of the universe over all time, has plans for me/you? That only He knows. I think even if you're not sure of "a God", this verse is provoking and like a whisper. With a whisper, you won't find everything out, but it draws you closer to the source to hear it louder, or more of it. It plays to our curiosity. It's a very special verse to me now.

Isaiah 40:11

"He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young."


At school, I recall having a discussion on Christianity wherein the professor had said how offensive it was to be compared to sheep. Supposedly, sheep are really stupid creatures; if led to the side of a cliff, they will blindly fall if led by their shepherd. But... isn't that the nature of human beings? We are so easily led here and there. Here, we are given a Shepherd who actually cares about and loves us; one who holds us each to his breast and will go searching for miles just for that one lost sheep.

1 John 4 16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19We love him, because he first loved us.

I know someone posted Jeremiah 29:11 already, but I really like it along with verses 12 and 13..

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (New King James Version)

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

"but God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." romans 5:8

that thought alone makes me want to fall to my knees and worship. He loved us so thoroughly and genuinely that while we were filthy, tainted, and sinful - He came and He died for us.

John 16:33
"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

"Be at rest, Oh my soul, for the Lord has been good to you" Psalm 116:7

I found this verse the night I got the phone call that my mom had left my dad and moved out. It was a lifeline from God that night and it always reminds me that no matter my circumstances or what life throws at me, I can honestly say that the Lord has been good.

Hebrews 4:12

"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
