His personal views on religion don't make him a bad musician. I like a lot of his music, and while I think he's wrong in his statement, I still enjoy him as a musician and will continue to do so.

If we judge every person by comments they make and don't agree with, then we will have no friends and nothing to watch nor listen to. Think of the last time you made it known to someone that you hate God because you were going through a rough time as well.

Elton John is one of the all time greats, along with David Bowie and Freddie Mercury who were pretty strange in their own ways.

To suddenly decide you aren't going to listen to the music of an openly gay man who makes a throw away statement is pretty silly.

It is just that kind of opinion that drives people from christianity
If people actually take what a celebrity says about religion seriously, I would question their faith to begin with. Most people know that celebrities are not a reliable resource for information.

Gay artists also have a history of deathbed conversions, from Oscar Wilde to Liberace.

As far as I know Liberace and Oscar Wilde's conversion was a myth much like Darwin's. :sorry: Just saying
Oh and funny little fact.
Wilde's last words: Either the wallpaper goes or I go.

I'm honestly not surprised. He's a hurting lost man. His music is great though.

Why such agitation about a speculation that Jesus might have been gay? As if it was the greatest insult one could fling at someone.
Not that I think that even Elton John himself sincerely believes that, but would it change anything if Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah, had been attracted to men?

Also, Elton John certainly is a great musician, even though he is long past his best years imho.

Well, he's a musician, not a theologian. And, I honestly doubt even he believes that, it was a throwaway comment, nothing more, methinks.

Besides, since when does religious idiocy affect talent? He is still an amazing musician, regardless of stupid comments.

You could be right about Liberace, but Wilde's conversion is beyond doubt. He was received by Fr. Cuthbert Dunne of the Passionists, and there also exists a deathbed photo of Wilde holding a rosary in his hands. And none of his family denied the incident as Darwin's did.

Hopefully Elton will follow suit. :prayer:

It might have helped that he was somewhat utterly delirious during his conversion. I don't want to rain on your parade but I highly doubt it was a conscious decision.

BTW, yes, God IS love, but God is also righteous and justice. Jesus was the Living Word, and the Word would not go against Himself (the Bible has clearly marked that THE ACT OF homosexuality is a sin). Hence, there is no way Jesus would be gay.

We have to remember that it is the ACT that we don't like...not the people. I have a number of gay friends and they know how I feel, but they also know that I love them anyway.

That said, I've loved Elton John's music for years ("The One" is one of his best albums) and this isn't going to make me stop listening to him. He is also entitled to his opinion...I just wish he wouldn't try to make such a big deal about it. It seems like the older he gets, the more he thrives on controversy. For instance, his latest thing is being angry at any artists who want to boycott Arizona because of their illegal immigration law...obviously taking the more controversial stand.
