BBC News - BA cabin crew strike to go ahead as talks collapse

A strike by British Airways cabin crew will go ahead after talks between the airline and the Unite union collapsed. The three-day walkout begins at midnight, with a further four days of action set to commence on 27 March.
BA chief Willie Walsh said the strike was "deeply regrettable". The airline has said 65% of passengers will reach their destination during the action.
Unite's joint general secretary, Tony Woodley, said that BA "ultimately wants to go to war with this union".

BA said there could also be disruption to flights between the two strikes.
Separately, railway signal workers have voted in favour of strikes in a row over jobs and safety.
So, Unite are going ahead with the strike anyway. My prayers are with BA.

Whole thing seems as if it has been out of proportion really, however, BA does appear to be acting unfairly. Seems they haven't made any great attempts to reach a compromise and are removing perks for anyone who goes on strike. RMU strike, on the other hand, seems entirely justified. Surprised they're not striking about tube jobs going after Boris Johnson promised they wouldn't to be honest.

I'm typically against unions. There has to be a better way to resolve worker-management issues than going on strike all the time.

Like what? I'm at the University of Leeds and a short series of strike threats (none actually happened) finally dealt with the University management going about spending cuts in the wrong way. When all you can sell is your labour, then the only effective threat you have is to take it away.

People stop working and are surprised when they stop getting perks?

LOL

Praying for tyrannical institutions must have been one of the messages from Jesus that I missed?

Oh don't worry:
43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor[h] and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies[i] and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

(Matthew 5:43-48)

Always happy to help/correct!

I'm typically for unions and I think this is a complete bonehead move on their part. Unite once again proves its strategic mastery by striking whilst the iron is cool and further damaging a company already struggling with heavy losses.
Well I'm definitely not on the side of the Tories...
Thirded.

Just because their actions are unsurprising does not make them justified or fair.

Meh. Unite have the press against them, and a strike that disrupts the general public isn't going to massively popular unless people perceive that there is grave injustices going. It's hardly the worker's fault that BA was hastily privatised by the Tories without any plans to change it's business model, I fail to see why they should be punished for years of mismanagement.

It's justified AND fair.

Those perks come from employment, when you stop working you stop getting perks.

In this economy, I am suprised any union would go on strike.
Maybe Britain's economies better now, but I thought the world was
in a similar economy to the US.

Dangerous to strike, when so many people are out of work. Not alot of sympathy for strikers when out of workers walk the streets looking for work, while they walk the street trying to get better perks or wages.
(Safety is a different story, if they picket for safety issues then most people will agree with union.) I don't believe there is enough unemployed Airline personel to replace the strikers, even if that was legal.(worldwide maybe, not in one country though)

I don't tend to knee jerk to the left(unions) nor to the right(management)
anymore. I have seen both sides acting unfairly.

I hope the strike is short and both sides can find a comon ground to settle on.(as in any strike)

US airlines(the whole group, not the specific airline of that title) are not fairing this economy to well. They are cutting everything they can, and increasing the cost of every
thing they can.

I fail to see why exercising your rights should bring punishment. It seems to be a rather ill disguised attempt to break the union.

You are paid to work. When you stop working you give up your rights to employment.

Pretty simple.
