Does anyone here ACTUALLY drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day? I've been trying to increase my water intake but was wondering if this is an attainable goal on an everyday basis?

I wake up and have a glass, knocking out one for the day. So far today I've had one glass of water and two cups of coffee :X I made a huge pitcher of Crystal Light lemonade at my house and use the 'on the go' packets at work. When I add Crystal Light it makes drinking water easier because it's tasty--- plus it has antioxidants and vitamins. Anyone else ever tried it?

What things do you do to make sure you get enough water each day? Are you able to drink enough water (the recommended amount)?

I'm good for three 32oz. glasses a day, more if I go to the gym. My wife has a terrible time getting enough. Most experts will tell you that coffee and soda don't count even though they're 99% water. I read a book a few years ago about the importance of staying hydrated. It's amazing all the benefits you get from drinking water....especially the pain relief.

When I exercise I get more water too- that's a given.

I found thee other facts about how important hydration is when I was browsing the Crystal Light site...
- Hydration plays a critical role in maintaing a normal body temperature.
- Hydration improves digestion.
- Hydration lubricates joints and tissues.
- Hydration aids in the elimination of waste and toxins from the body.
- Hydration assists with the movement of nutrients through the entire body.

Any other tips on getting enough water? I started drinking a glass as soon as I wake up -- it helps get me going!

Anyone got a link to this actual recommendation of 8 Glasses a Day?
Every Doctor I've heard when pressed, states there is no actual recommendation.

Water alone is not enough if disease is a concern. If you notice an orange it contains water, nutrients, vitamin C and sugar. I drink sugared softdrink daily with lemonjuice-flavoured icecubes. It is my own theory and through self-experience that you can never get diabetes if you are constantly taking in lemonjuice. I must be the only person in the world to drink sugared softdrink with lemonjuiced-flavoured icecubes and never get diabetes or heart disease if I eat meat pies and eggs now and then. Water being flavoured becomes tasty and encourages more fluid in the body. I believe cancer attacks sugar molecules, and too much sugar can attract all cancers and get flushed out through urine as the body cannot take excess sugar, that's why I drink sugared softdrink. The body cannot also take too much water, so it is exited through urine along with toxins, excess sugar and fat.

I don't think I get 8 glasses a day but doing a lot better than I used to!! Maybe 6-7 a day right now. And I haven't had pop for over 2 yrs!!! And I sure don't miss it.

Actually lately I've heard they increased (and I'm not for certain who "they" is.. I wasn't listening closely enough:sorry:) from 8 glasses of purified water a day to 9-13!!!!!

Drinking enough water is very good for good health.I do take water very regularly especially very early in the morning before brushing my teeth.
Experts recommend that drinking enough water is very vital to health. At least I take a minimum of eight glasses of water every day. EMMANCO

I second PGP on doubting on the 8 glasses standard. I highly doubt that 8 glasses applies uniformly to everyone. How much water you need depends heavily on how much water your body loses... if your job involves spending much time at a desk for example it's unlikely you'll need as much.

If anyone cares about their health and hydration level, urine color is the best indicator. Clear=fully hydrated, and the darker it is the worse off you are.

Be careful drinking soda/coffee/tea as an alternative to water. Caffeine does a great job at dehydrating you. As long as you're drinking decaf and avoiding lots of sugar you should do just fine.
Drinking water is good for you in a lot of different ways. Being hydrated even helped me get over air sickness! As for a source for the whole "8 glasses per day", I don't know that there is one. Who's to say what a "glass" is anyway? Can I just take 8 shots of water and call it good?

Just drink water until your pee is clear then drink some more, that's what they teach us in the military anyway. :)

I think you'd have to be trying pretty hard to "overdose" on the stuff.
