Okay, I have always wondered where in the Bible, and I would need this to be in the proper context, God tells us not to use cuss words. I seriously think it's purely a cultural thing to not wanna cuss, not really a Biblical thing.

I mean, Jesus even cussed. He once even said something about our sins being no more than "filthy rags" to God. "Filthy rags" back then, meant tampons or kotex in the culture and it was considered profain in that day.

So tell me, if God Himself cussed when He walked with us on this earth, then HOW is it bad to cuss by His standard?

The Biblical commandment is to not take the Lord's name in vain. Many do that when they say "Jesus" as a byword or exclamation. It is taking the Lord's name in vain any time you use His name without the proper reverence. As for vulgar language it is somewhat cultural but in any culture it says something about you when you use it. BTW the Lord Jesus didn't "cuss". The passage you are refering to is in Isa. and it does mean what you say but it is only a use of something repulsive to illustrate the ugliness of sin. Did Christ use the common language? Yes but He was never profane. The use of profanity and vulgar language leaves a lasting impression on those who hear you.

Actually, in that day, culture, and location, it was a one of the WORST words you could use on another being. It was like telling them to go and F themselves.

If He was never profain, then you're saying profanity is a sin. But God WAS profain in both OT and NT, if you read it properly. And since God doesn't sin, because He hates sin, then using harsh language can't be a sin if God did it.

If you wish to justify the use of vulgar language in order to ease your conscience you will. You don't need my help. This is one of the reasons I rarely give advice. Folks usually are looking for justification for what they want to do and always do what they want anyway.

I'm not looking for justification for anything. I prefer not to cuss because I just have this feeling that if you're smart you can find better words to use to explain how you feel.

BUT............I don't see why people are so quick to say that God says not to do something He Himself did.

In addition to Brother Ron's words please consider the following:

Col 4
2Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Paul also tells us in Ephesians 4:15-16 to speak the truth in love.
15Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

James tells us in James 3:9-12
9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Peter tells us in 1 Peter 3:10
10For,
"Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech
.

Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:29
29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Obviously cussing can't be a sin though, if God Himself used nasty lingo with us.....I mean, that would make Him a hypocrite, which He oh-so clearly ISN'T. So once again, I ask you to give me proper context where God tells not to cuss.

Dear sister,

Your interpretation that the passage in Isaiah represents profanity is not correct. Isaiah is describing uncleanliness as described in Leviticus 15:33 and 20:18. The passages that I quoted from the NT teach that our speech should be edifying not offensive. Profanity is offensive and not edifying.

Jesus explained that what comes out of our mouths is that which fills our hearts. Sooner or later, the evil in the heart comes out through the mouth in curses and swearing. But when our hearts are filled with the goodness of God, praise for Him and love for others will pour forth. Our speech will always indicate what is in our hearts (Luke 6:45).

You seem to want to justify profanity by accusing God of being profane. It seems to me that your issue is with the word of God and I will exhort you to meditate on the word and in prayer.

You need to take the Bible into context of author, culture of time, day and age, and everything else that helps one understand the Bible's words.....

I don't wanna justify anything about profanity I just want people to realize the fact that it's not a sin to be so.

Only if you twist the word to your own liking ...........I mean, God doesn't care what we say if we're trying to fight for Him, and if we get mad, He wants us to have the right to express that anger justly as long as we don't sin in the fact of it.

And profane words are NOT A SIN.

Read the words in my siggy. They are Jesus words from Matthew 5:13-16. How can we be the "light of the world" if our speech is not seasoned with salt and edifying to God? How can our light shine through good works while using profanity?

Again, your issue is with the word of God not with me or anyone else here. Take it up with God and don't be a stumbling block to others.

Okay...........well, what I mean by profane is the culture's definition more than the dictionary one. Profane: IE bad words usually counting to four letters.

Does give advice on how we should talk:

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." (Ephesians 4:29)

"Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving." (Ephesians 5:4)

"But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips." (Colossians 3:8)

The idea that certain words are inherently bad is entirely cultural and not biblical at all. The idea that we should be exercise caution in the way that we use language is quite biblical. It is not about the specific words that we use, but rather the flavor of what we have to say (which is, however, often impacted by our word choice). If our words are not loving, it is no defense to say "I didn't use any cuss words." If our words are loving, they are rendered immoral just because a word that is regarded as a cuss word. Generally, however, when you use vulgar language, you should be prepared to ask whether it is really consistent with loving speech (I believe that it is sometimes, but quite rarely).

:amen: to even say Jesus used vulgar language is flat out ridiculous.. the things you see on forums such as this and others now a days is flat out ridiculous..

2 Timothy 4:1-4 (King James Version)

2 Timothy 4

1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
