One thing to keep in mind, is that you may run into progressive dispensationalism if you haven't already. The reason why I bring that up is you mention differences between "modern" and "classical" dispensationalism. Progressive and classical dispensationalism are two separate but related systems that are represented today.
Progressive dispensationalism (represented by such guys as Blaising, Bock and Saucy) is much less radical than the classical variety represented by the Scofield Reference Bible. It comes part way to the covenantal understading of Scripture, but obviously not all the way. The is also ultra-dispensationalism. Many of those folks go so far as to not even practice baptism because they think it was only for a small dispensation between the Jesus' public ministry and a certain point in the book of Acts (which can vary depending on who you talk to).
