Or Did He Not...

Sum the law and prophets by telling us to love God above all, AND others as ourselves?

Haitians brought the quake on itself? Are America's woes our fault?

Funny how narratives work, isn't it. Why IS that?

Blessings!

How Do We Know --

Just so you know: sinner = all men (Romans 3:23)

That the Haitian disaster was precipitated by the people themselves (i.e., that it was judgment as opposed to calamity). For exactly what reasons are we supposed to believe that proposition?

The people precipitated an earthquake? Were they all jumping up and down in unison? Otherwise, I just don't see it happening.

I think you are inferring causation from a correlation. If God behaved in this manner, why wasn't there an earthquake in Germany in the 40's? Or Russia in the 30's? There doesn't seem to be a predictable pattern between human sin and God meting out his wrath through natural disasters.

You know, I've thought of it this way: Sarah Palin joining Fox News -- and Fox News in general -- and the people who swallow the thoughtless pill by assuming that Palin is competent (or that Fox News is credible, and/or not a propaganda machine) makes me feel like the person on the Titanic who is trying to convince everyone that destruction is imminent, only to be greeted by smiling faces (and even contempt) with the assurance that it isn't, hush hush, take a back seat, get in line, go play Xbox, off you go.

Correlation is EASILY proved. Causation is quite another matter.

If memory serves correctly, Pat Robertson gave us this line on Katrina which, as you know, was God's judgment on New Orleans' gays.

Someone asked what would be the import of storms assailing Huston. The reply (of course) is that this would be God's judgment on New Orleans' gays who moved to Huston after Katrina.

Blessings!

A Disciplined Mind --

...both from candidates for high public office, and for opinion shapers.

You know, I've thought of it this way: Sarah Palin joining Fox News -- and Fox News in general ...

Clearly, I'm disappointed on all counts.......

You'll get no argument from me on that point!

Post hoc ergo proctor hoc.

I bet you can explain every natural disaster after the fact.

Listen: I'm willing to look at the evidence that Palin isn't terribly lacking in credibility -- due to her intelligence, due to statements from those in her home town about her psycho-competitive edge ("Sarah Barracuda" is her name) -- and that Fox isn't a right-wing propaganda machine that has inexorably revealed itself to be so through not-so-subtle blips on reason's radar. The problem is that -- and I'm not trying to be mean here (facts can seem mean if you love your beliefs) -- there are no arguments. She is terribly lacking in credibility. Fox News does work ultimately to support the rich (Murdoch was once quoted as saying that the best thing that could come from the Iraq war was lower oil prices) while masquerading as a champion of liberty and deluding its innocent viewers that it's a source of real journalistic professionalism (Fair and Balanced, y'know).

These are facts, which don't disappear simply because you don't want them to be so.

No, really, I'm trying to get through to you (in a non-condescending, person-to-person way). You can't keep pushing off that little knock on your conscience that would lead you to question your (long-held) beliefs just because a nice emotion (pride? security? fear?) cuddles you into submission. That's the comfortably sloped downward path to falsity. Use reason, and be aggressive. God would want nothing less.

It's not a fact that Palin quit five colleges before settling on one? It's not a fact that Palin quit the governorship? It's not a fact that Palin is an intellectual lightweight?

Everything said thus far about Palin is absolutely correct.

We've already seen you and others claim - on this thread and others - that stating the facts about Palin is a "venomous attack" and "hate". We're not responsible for what you are not willing to accept.

Did anyone see the creepy interview with Glenn Beck? I saw snippets on The Daily Show and noticed Fox was re-airing it tonight. I tried to watch, but it was painfully creepy.
Dude! I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets the jitters watching Beck. The guy seriously makes me feel uncomfortable but it's hard to put my finger on why. I think it's because he reminds me of someone who has no clue when he's toeing the TMI line and no clue about basic social graces.

I'm all for someone who is enthusiastic and who shows emotion...but he comes out as a guy with NO self control and NO mental filters. Search out "Glenn Beck Fail: Best Of Beck Clips" on YouTube for a primo selection of examples.

Yeah, I saw that via the Daily Show. I'm afraid Beck quite simply might be a little mentally unstable. He has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which is tragic, because he really appears to be a great guy. But he's embarrassing journalists (through raking in the ratings).

No kidding. It was unnerving. When he started reading to Sarah Palin from his private journal, I almost had to turn away.

If anyone tries to tell you that Fox News isn't in bed with the GOP, just show them that clip. That clip is video evidence of Fox News LITERALLY trying to get into bed with the GOP <shudder>.
