I live in the Appalachian mountains, they've actually only gotten smaller over time from erosion. During the flood they would have been larger, and our highest peak is over 6000 feet.

I think you have 2 peaks over 6,000 feet.... Clingmans Dome in North Carolina and Mt. Washington in New Hampshire:) Been up Washington a few times but only driven by the NC mountains...

Sure they were higher at one point, but don't forget they were thrust up and then worn down.

This topics been dead for 3 years? I wonder if it will resurrect?

I'll help resurrect it :)

I do believe that because the world and the universe is so vast and mankind's technology and knowledge is so limited, there are things that we simply do not know. So when it comes to the paranormal, extraterrestrial life and monsters I'm not so quick to dismiss them. That doesn't mean that I believe every story and or every piece of "evidence". I do approach it with some skepticism. But I do believe it's extremely arrogant of mankind to say with absolute certainty that these things do not exist because we simply can't know. As some guy in some show said at some time, "The truth is out there."

Lol, I know. I DVR every episode. My (bad) attempt at humor, lol.

We've had the whole DVD set for 6 years. Some of them are worn out now and don't play too well. Haven't seen the new movie yet though.

I don't think there's any way that Earth could possibly be the only planet in our gargantuan universe to have life on it. It just seems improbable.

It seems unlikely whether a person takes a creationist view or evolutionary view of the universe that Earth would be the one and only. Why would God create billions of suns, a universe that so far we have not been able to measure because it's infinite, and then just put life on one little planet?
For evolutionists, (even if I don't believe in the theory), if life "evolved" here it must have evolved elsewhere too.

I've had seasons 1-3 for a year now. I bought them "for my husband" ;) last year for Christmas. And some of the disks are starting to skip because they're out so much, lol.

The new movie is pretty good. I don't want to give too much away, but it's different from the first movie, but is still X-Files-y. Like something from the series.

perspective? think about it us on one little planet in the middle of a massive galaxy that is just one of many many more... makes ya feal kinda tiny doesnt it...

that aside i believe there is life out there.... there has to be... whether some ancient civilization found away to leave earth and travled to unknown parts and started a new civilization or if there are diferent species all together...

but if you think about it... i think any race smart enough to travel to our planet would likely be smart enough to avoid humankind.... we are very destructive and violent as a species....

Yes I believe in Alien life form. lol just kidding. No I don't lol..
I believe in Demons being out there; Allowed to roam around

Both will prove to be true. A lot of the aliens,e specially the ones who do mischievous or downright nasty things to people against their will are demons. The Grays are comparable to the 3 unclean spirits like frogs in Revelation.
But then we have angelics. Technically they are ET because they are not of this world. Angels come in many different classes, so why wouldn't some of them have their own worlds? I don't think every single angel sits around Gods throne all the time worshiping God. Some select few do that.
There are angels that take on human form and can even interbreed with humans like the Watchers did. That tells us there are ET forms of life out there and not all are demon manifestations. Some are angelics which are just people created a little bit higher than humans. Very similar though, so much that often in scripture and by experience humans have not been able to tell an angel from a regular person....

Has anyone here ever read Greg Bear's Forge of God and Anvil of Stars? In these novels, the author answers the question of "where are the aliens?" with a chilling response: "all of them are dead, and the earth is next."

Then all the aliens would be ghosts haunting us and that would explain the warnings.
Haven't read those 2 though

Like many have said in this topic already, its hard to believe with all the countless galaxies and millions of star within them. That there would be only us, on this little ancient planet we call Earth.

But I personally believe the majority of what modern man perceives as "Aliens / ETs" are demonic in nature. But that doesn't discount that they are actual aliens, since they aren't of this world, but were cast down to it.

So in conclusion on my two cents to this awesome thread, I do believe there is other civilizations like ours out in the universe. However, if they even know of us, for very good obvious reasons, they are staying far away from our utterly destructive, yet unbelievably blessed race.

I don't see why there couldn't be but I have no reason to believe that there is either. There is simply not enough information. There could conceivably be anaerobic bacteria in our own solar system, I suppose, but there haven't . That would be good for the "philosophy fiction" sub-genre("what if these bacteria proved to be intelligent", etc). But it would only be a minor part of the medium "hardness" Space Opera/Space Western sub-genres that I prefer.

For me aliens are mainly a literary device and they are the modern equivalent to Fair Folk. But the fact that either could conceivably exist is enough for the imagination.
