The Protestant 66 book Bible is divisable into the Old Testament catagories called "The Law, The Prophets, and The Writtings.

...THE LAW...............THE PROPHETS...................THE WRITTINGS

.1. Genesis...............23. Isaiah..........................45. Romans
.2. Exodus................24. Jeremiah......................46. 1 Corinthians
.3. Leviticus.............25. Lamentations.................47. 2 Corinthians
.4. Numbers..............26. Ezekiel.........................48. Galations
.5. Deuteronomy........27. Daniel..........................49. Ephesians
.6. Joshua................28. Hosea..........................50. Philippians
.7. Judges................29. Joel.............................51. Colossians
.8. Ruth...................30. Amos...........................52. 1 Thessalonians
.9. 1 Samuel.............31. Obadiah.......................53. 2 Thessalonians
10. 2 Samuel............32. Jonah...........................54. 1 Timothy
11. 1 Kings...............33. Micah..........................55. 2 Timothy
12. 2 Kings...............34. Nahum.........................56. Titus
13. 1 Chronicles........35. Habakkuk......................57. Philemon
14. 2 Chronicles........36. Zephaniah.....................58. Hebrews
15. Ezra..................37. Haggai..........................59. James
16. Nehemiah...........38. Zechariah......................60. 1 Peter
17. Esther...............39. Malachi.........................61. 2 Peter
18. Job...................40. Matthew.......................62. 1 John
19. Psalms...............41. Mark............................63. 2 John
20. Proverbs............42. Luke.............................64. 3 John
21. Ecclesiastes.......43. John.............................65. Jude
22. Song of Solomon.44. Acts.............................66. Revelation

The sixty-six books of the protestant Bible are usually divided into the Old and the New Testaments. But they can also be arranged in a Trinitarian manner. EAch of the three columns of 22 books matches it's catagory under a Physical, emotional and mental column.
The arrangement of the Bible into these trinitarian catagories is by no means unintended. The symbology inferred here is vast and diverse. The first two columns can represent the first 4000 years of the Old Testament period. The third column represents the 2000 year Christian Era.
Along with this each separate column has it's own internal patterns and divisions which are intricately symbolic. These divisions are made dividing clusters or sections of books that were long held to be units unto themselves and given names such as the Pentateuch, Wisdom Literature, Major Prophets and Minor Prophets.
The first column describes the creation and activities from the time of Adam until the establishment of the Temple fire in Jerusalem at about 1000BC. In the second column are the names of the Sons or Prophets who warned the people with their emotional laments. The activities of these Prophets led to the coming of the Holy Spirit as described at the very end of the second column in Acts. Then, in the third column Christianity which began during the Roman period begins with the book of Romans. This third column under the heading of Writtings is indeed all writtings of epistles. These three columns also fit under the Christian Trinity headings of The Father, The Sons and The Holy Spirit.

There are other Protestants who break it down differently and have not attempted to achieve this symmetry. For instance, Judges is sometimes considered among "Prophets" in Judaism. Also, there are commonly recognized among Protestants 4 categories, not 3. Those are the Pentateuch, Historical Books, Wisdom Books, and Prophets.

Example here.

But arn't you amazed at how the Protestants were able to devise the 66 book bible to match the three catagories. Have you examined which books they took out of the earlier Orthodox and Catholic Bibles. I have and the way they did it would have been impossible for men to have done it. They didn't change anything about the order of the previous Bibles, just took out 7 books and presto, it all lines up. Thats a miracle! dan b

Yes, I have examined in great detail the history of the Deuterocanonical books. I disagree respectfully with the list you provide (for one thing, it's not necessary one way or the other to have 3 groups of 22). For instance it has Ezra and Nehemiah as "Law" instead of prophets. That may be the first time I've ever heard them classified as such! I would avoid trying to get symmetry out of the numbers because that practice resembles numerology. A book should be considered Scripture or not because it is. There's no need to discard books for the sake of numbering. :)

Hello Spencer, It's not me that did this, it's the ones that reduced the Bible from the Greek Orthodox 77 books, and the Roman Catholic Vulgate's 73 books. It's actually just the way it ended up when the Protestants took out the 7 books from the Catholic Vulgate. That is whats so amazing about it. Nobody changed anything at all. I have the Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic Bibles in front of me here, and I can see that nothing was shuffled at all. Each Church only removed first 4 books and then 7 books to get the 66 we have today. And yet they ended up fitting under these three headings the the original Hebrew 39 book Bible used. It's quite amazing I think. I personally have nothing to do with it. I just put them evenly under the headings. How could this work out I wonder myself. But it does. dan b

Oh I forgot to say. The scheme continues still further if your interested. Each of the column have their own numeric/trintitarian scheme. And the number 22 of which each column consists seems to be used in the bible in special ways. For instance, the Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters, each 22d book of each column is unique, and the last and 22d book of the last column Revelation has 22 chapters. I was hoping others could add to this. thanks for the reply dan b

My research discovered that Jerome (ca. 347-420) rejected the Apocrypha as Scripture, understanding that the Jews got the OT Scripture correct and the Apocrypha was not included. A read of "Tobit" and "Bel and the Dragon" surely shows the non-canonical nature of the Apocrypha. I do accept that there is some historical benefit to be gained in reading the Maccabees.

Therefore, it is incorrect to say,
the Protestants took out the 7 books from the Catholic Vulgate.
Jereome rejected the Apocrypha.

I do not accept the Apocrypha as Scripture for these reasons:

  • It was not accepted by the Jews as Scripture. The earliest list of OT books that exists today is by Melito, bishop of Sardis, written about AD 170. It does not include the Apocrypha, and includes all of our OT books except Esther.
  • Lack of citations in the NT.
  • There was divided opinion in the early history of the church on whether it was Scripture or not. Earliest church history was against viewing the Apocrypha as Scripture, but acceptance increased gradually until the time of the Reformation (as you know the Apocrypha was included in Jerome's Latin Vulgate, ca. AD 404). However, Jerome did say that they were NOT "books of the canon" and were "books of the church" that may be useful for believers.
  • It is obvious that Jerome's inclusion of the Apocrypha enhanced the accessibility of these extra-canonical books.
  • Early historian, Eusebius, confirmed most of the OT books but he did not include the Apocrypha and he said that the Books of Maccabees [Apocrypha] were "outside of" the canonical books.
  • When Athanasius (AD 367) wrote in his Paschal Letter, he listed all of the NT and OT books in the canon (except Esther). He mentioned some of the apocryphal books such the Wisdom of Solomon, the Wisdom of Sirach, Judith, and Tobit, but "there are other books besides these not indeed included in the Canon, but appointed by the Fathers to be read by those who newly join us, and who wish for instruction in the word of godliness. The Wisdom of Solomon, and the Wisdom of Sirach, and Esther, and Judith, and Tobit, and that which is called the Teaching of the Apostles, and the Shepherd. But the former, my brethren, are included in the Canon, the latter being [merely] read; nor is there in any place a mention of apocryphal writings. But they are an invention of heretics . . ." (See: NPNF2-04. Athanasius: Select Works and Letters | Christian Classics Ethereal Library.)
  • There are doctrinal and historical anomalies in some of the books of the Apocrypha that do not confirm that they are of divine origin.
  • It was only at the Council of Trent in 1546 that the Roman Catholic Church officially declared that the Apocrypha was a part of the canon of Scripture, with the exception of the Prayer of Manasseh and 2 Esdras. Trent was a response of the RCC to Martin Luther's teaching. One of my concerns is that this RC Council (Trent) took the authority to determine what was in and out of Scripture. My view is that it added to Scripture by including the Apocrypha.
  • Therefore, I reject the Apocrypha as Scripture because:
    • It does not come with the same kind of authority as the OT writings;
    • The Jews did not regard these writings as originating with God;
    • Jesus and the NT writers did not consider them as Scripture;
    • They contain teaching that is not consistent with the remainder of the Bible.

Sincerely, Spencer

Hi again Spencer, Yes, I definately agree with you that the apocrypha was unfit for the Holy Bible. I too have read them to that conclusion. But as for what I stated earlier, that Jerome took out 4 books from the Greek Orthodox Bible and that Luther took out 7 books from the Vulgate is true. And they never re-arranged anything else. So it is God's miracle. Here are both and I have put the "taken out books" in capital letters.

.................................GREEK ORTHODOX BIBLE..................................

25. Song of Solomon...........................................75. Philemon
26. WISDOM OF SOLOMON...................................76. Hebrews
27. ECCLESIASTICUS...........................................77. Revelation

This is the cannon of the Greek/Russian Orthodox Bible which was the first Christian Holy Bible arrangement used by all Christians before the Catholic Vulgate was designed. I Essdras is Ezra.(I think) the New Testament was at this time in this order with Paul's epistles coming after James, Peter, John and Jude. But all the New testament books are there without additions. The book of Jonah is the very center as it also is in the following Catholic Vulgate Bible. Thats kind of miracle in itself, I think.

This is the Vulgate that Jerome devised by leaving out "4" books from the original Greek Orthodox Bible. It also has "Jonah" as the center, yet without making any changes to have it so. Amazing! I like the Protestant Bible 66 book cannon for the following reasons. It's center is between Micah and Nahum, which is "M" and "N". This is also the center of the Greek and the English Alphabets.(magic!) Also the 66 book cannon of the Protestant Bible has the beginning of the New Testament of Matthew as the 40th book. This is when Jesus Christ arrived, at the very end of the 4th millennium after Adam and Eve. He is represented as "The Sun" created on Genesis day 4. The Hebrew Old Testament ended during the 39th century after Adam in 4000BC so it correspondingly has 39 books. Can you help me find more correspondences or numerics? I'm always on the look out. peace and happyness. dan b

Spencer, I recommend researching this further and read some Catholic sites to balance what you have read regarding what the Jews actually accepted or rejected as Scripture. First off, they did not have a closed canon. Second, it is the Christians who were given the Spirit of discernment to identify Scripture, and therefore the early Church's perspective is the superior arbiter.

It is peculiar as to why one would name Jerome as their authority rather than other Christians who did accept the deuterocanonical books (what you call apocrypha.) But as well, Jerome on a number of occasions quoted the deuterocanon as Scripture (some examples here and in Michuta's book linked below).

Some valuable resources are the following:

5 Myths on 7 Books - addresses a number of your conclusions as to why you reject these books.
Article from published by Monmouth College. (contains the statement: "Sirach is quoted three times in the Talmud as scripture.")
Article from University of Evansville.
Other resources.

The best book I have read on the subject is Why Catholic Bibles Are Bigger by Gary Michuta.

Ezra and Nehemiah are one book in the Hebrew Bible. Plus aren't we in 2010? Doesn't that mean the Bible is basically useless to us now since the 2000 years have passed that you are talking about? The Father is physical? The Son is emotional? And the Holy Spirit is mental? The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three persons. The Holy Spirit is not just some mental construct and the Son is not all about being emotional and if anyone were considered more physical it would seem to be the Son. He was the one going around and healing people by spitting and dirt and He is the one who physically died on a cross, not just emotionally.

The whole thing just seems screwy. In the very early Christian church selections from the Old Testament were read and then writings from the Gospels and Epistles were incorporated. Eventually the Old Testament writings were no longer read and there was an appointed Epistle and Gospel reading. More recently and Old Testament reading has been reincorprated. So regardless of whether you're Roman Catholic, Lutheran, or generic Protestant the way in which the church understands the catagories is in terms of Gospel, Epistle, and Old Testament. That's the way the lectionaries are designed and the lectionary format is the most common way to find Bibles throughout history. It's not until very modern times that you find Bibles with all the books in them.

Hello wild boar, Thankyou for the conctructive input. You have brought up some very big questions, which demand big and comprehensive answers. It seems to me that you are asking the following;
1. Is the Holy Bible useless to us now that we have reached the year 2000AD and entered Christ's promised millennium and the re-generation? Matt.19;28
2. Why does the Holy Trinity place the Father as the physical aspect, the Son as the emotional(in-motional), and the Holy Spirit as the mental? The answer to the first question is of course; we still need the Bible because each of us must seek his own salvation through Christ and it is necessary for our enlightenment and understanding even in the millennium. The millennium or re-generation as Jesus Christ has called it is a period of rest, just as the earlier Tribes of Israel had when they crossed the Jordan River. But it is the second covenant where instead of a mercyless law written in stone we Christians have the law in our hearts and minds. Jer.31;31 Heb.8;10 But were still not in heaven yet, just "heaven on earth" as our ancestors have long been praying for. " Thy kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven." Matt.6'10 According to the Bible we still have 1000 years here on earth before the final Judgment. Rev.20;12 Here is a simple chart of how the Bible describes it.

3000AD -.........The Second Death....(Judgment day - Rev.20;12)......

...............Kingdom of Heaven on earth...(European Christian Israel - E.U.)
2000AD........................................................................................

..."Kingdom of Heaven within you"........."Some of you standing here shall
...............Luke 17;21........................not taste death till you see the
...................................................son of Man in his kingdom.Matt.16;28
......................................................(Jesus was the Son of God)
...................................................................................................
JESUS CHRIST born........................................................................

.....................Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. Israel in the promised land.
......................Go over Jordan, unto the land which I give you.Josh.1;2
2000BC.......................................................................................

..............Mankind on Earth.(cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow
..............shalt thou eat of it....." In the sweat of the brow shalt thou eat
..............bread till thou return unto the ground." Gen;3;17

4000BC........Adam and Eve follow the Serpent out of Eden....................

So there have been three 2000 year periods(a trinity) until today.
.................................................................................................

..............................THE HOLY TRINITY.........................................
The Holy Trinity has been a central doctrine of Christendom for centuries. It is recorded that at least as early as 400AD Trinitarian concepts were being expounded and preached among Christians. All three Major Christian Church denominations have honored and accepted the concept of a Holy Trinity in a major way. But only the most investigative could really see what it means. Consider it from the very beginning of the creation of Mankind.

"SO GOD CREATED MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE,
IN THE IMAGE OF GOD CREATED HE HIM;
MALE AND FEMALE CREATED HE THEM." Gen.1;27

The fact that the creation of Mankind is described in a verse containing three statements and also the obvious symbolical connotations of the verse number being the very first "27" in the Bible collaborates and enforces Mankind's Trinity particularity. The number of this verse being "27" symbolizes the perfect Holy Trinity. 3 times 3 times 3

In this way human beings alone have been given this unique opportunity to understand god, in that they can conceive and be aware of this world in the "Trinity Perspectives."
1. Physical material (created by the Father)
2. E-Motional human history (experienced by sons of men)
3. Mental Understanding(consciousness, understood by the Spirit)
Human beings are entirely unique among this world's lifeforms, plant and animals. What is it exactly that sets them so apart? It is their ability to conceive of existence through the Trinity Perspectives.
Whereas all other animals on this earth can conceive of the Physical dimensions and are readily disturbed or excited in the Emotional dimension, their ability and cognizance in the Mental dimension is absolutely limited. They simply cannot think. Although they may ge used to a repeated routine or often accurately perceive another animals emotions, their mental and speculative abilities are limited to what could be more appropriately called impulsive feelings. Other animals besides human beings cannot think thoughts because they have not developed a complex vocabulary and language with which to describe and think them in their minds.Human beings, however, have this capacity to perceive and experience life in all three of these dimensions of existence in this world.

1. God the Creator, the Father, created this physical world of elements, forces and life forms. This is the world's physical manifestation and it was created by God in seven days. Gen.1 When we mentally conceive thoughts in these perspectives we are contemplating in the " FATHER PERSPECTIVE."
2. The Human Historical perspective lies in the ability of mankind to conceptualize his life as part of a long drawn out series called the "generations of mankind." The Sons of men experience historical lifespans in God's created physical world over a 7000 year development period. Similarly, in a microcosmic perspective each individual human being also experiences his own personal 70 year lifespan. Psalms.90;10
3. The dimension of Mental Understanding or "Holy Spirit" is attained only after humanity, or in the personal perspective, each individual, experiences living out their generations in the physical world. This is indicated in the Bible by the fact that the Holy Spirit did not become manifest until after the coming of the Son who was Jesus Christ. Jesus arrived to mankind only after 40 centuries just as a full spiritual understanding becomes available to a person only after 40 years. Here is one example of how the Holy Trinity of the Physical, Emotional and Mental aspects are embedded into so many stories in the Holy Bible. Although the Holy Bible is entirely true in a physical historical form, it also shows allegorical trinities throughout it's verses.

.......................THE THREE ASPECTS OF A HUMAN BEING................

SHEM = The Physical Body
HAM = The Emotional feelings
JAPHETH = The Mental reasoning

And Noah(the human being) drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered,(open) within his tent. Gen.9;21
And Ham(the emotions) saw the nakedness(vulnerability) of his father.(human existence) Gen.9;22
And Noah said, Cursed be Canaan "Ham's son",(the emotions)....a servant..shall he be unto his brethren....Shem and Japheth.(the physical body and the mental thoughts) Gen 9;25
And Noah said, Canaan(emotions) shall be Shem"s(the bodies) servant. Gen.9;26
God shall enlarge Japheth(mental understanding) ans shall dwell in the tents of Shem(the physical body) , and Canaan(emotions) shall be his servant. Gen.9;27
...............So...therefore...out human emotions are subject to the conditions of our physical bodies(Shem), and our mental considerations.(Japheth) Meanwhile Japheth(our human mental understanding) is forcast to increase(enlarge), as it truly has today. So even in this otherwise quite non-understandable story of these Biblical historical figures the Trinity is apparent.

None of what you wrote seems to come out of the text itself or allow God's Word to speak to you. It seems you have already come up with your own ideas and are just reading them into Scripture.
Hello again wildboar,
No, I don't come up with my own ideas at all. I only follow whereever the Holy Bible leads me. It's actually funny for me to be accused of such, all that I post is only from the bible. Consider and add the following to this list if you will, I didn't make it up either. I only looked for a long time and there it was.

Son.................of................M........a........N

4000BC....3000BC...2000BC.....Jesus Christ.....1000AD...2000AD..3000AD
................." Jesus Christ is in middle of calendar, between BC and AD

Jesus Christ often referred to the "Son of Man." the center of the word "Man" is between the M and N. Our modern English language alphabet is also laid out in this fashion with it's center between the M and N. More than 2000 years ago the Greek alphabet with which the story of Jesus is originally written is also divided with the M and N. Both the Old Testament Hebrew Bible and our modern Protestant Bible are also divided exactly between an M and N. Jesus is the Messiah and was crucified in the center of history as our calendar shows. In the Aramaic, Greek and even in German the word "messa" means middle or center. Even in English the word "messenger" connotates the one who joins two others or middleman.

So maybe that is why the book of Micah begins by saying " the Lord cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth."(Jerusalem to be exact)Micah 1;3 The book of Nahum meanwhile begins with the words " the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth,...." Nahum 1;2
