Singles Sports Fans Thread

Good morning, guys and gals. Here is your Singles Sports Fans Thread for sports fans of both genders. We're not here to be Amero-centric in our love of sports and yes, bowling and golf count. I'm hoping this thread goes over well and I encourage discussion of sports among singles. And don't be shy ladies. It's not just for guys. Get started with a little questionnaire and talk about the sports.

For me?

Do/did you play sports? I mostly played for fun because my skills left much to be desired. I tried my hand at baseball and American football. I also used to bowl and go fishing, both of which I haven't done in a while.
What are your favorite sports to play/watch? Baseball is my favorite sport, followed by American football. I will also watch basketball and hockey. I have a passing interest in track.
What are your favorite teams? I follow the New Orleans Saints of the NFL and the Chicago Cubs of MLB the most. I also root for the New Orleans Hornets of the NBA and the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL (thank you Cubs bloggers...). I've also been known to occasionally root for the Philadelphia Phillies of MLB.

There are a lot of reasons to enjoy sports. If you take part in sports, there is the aspect of being active. For the fan, there is the strategic aspect of watching sports. I can appreciate watching team sports, but also boxing and MMA to some extent. I could add more later, but please keep the discussion going.

Do/did you play sports?

In college I competed in ballroom dancing. Prior to that I mostly did pick-up games of basketball.

What are your favorite sports to play/watch?

I still like to do ballroom dancing but its been a while since I've competed. I'm pretty out of practice and out of shape to compete. I could get back into it but I have other priorities right now. Competing costs money for instruction and competition entry fees. Plus it takes a lot of time.

In terms of watching I like to watch football mostly, but I also like soccer. In fact I'm annoyed to some extent with the reputation soccer often gets in the United States.

I used to watch basketball but its lost a lot of appeal to me.

What are your favorite teams?

Football - Iowa Hawkeyes, I kind of like the Indianapolis Colts too but I don't follow them very closely.

Soccer - I used to watch the MLS and root for the Chicago Fire. But now I mostly just watch the USA play its international games.

Do/did you play sports? I wrestled in high school, was going to continue in college but shoulder injuries stopped that. I played football and boxed in backyards and such, but not for an actual team.

What are your favorite sports to play/watch? Football is my favorite. I used to love watching boxing but I don't enjoy it as much anymore.

What are your favorite teams? Cleveland browns

Cleveland Cavs... Cleveland Indians... Yes it's a depressing city to root for but I do it faithfully!

I have always played football (that's soccer to you guys over there)

I was captain of my school and have been playing the sport since my grandfather bought me a little ball when I just learned to walk

I still play but not as often because of being involved in church.

I used to do a lot of fencing too. In training, the only time I lost was when I played the British no #4. The dude hammered me lol :doh:

I was black and blue at the end. I was only 15 at the time though so I guess I did okay facing someone like him. I never took part in a tournament though as it took up too much time away from football.

I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and work-out. I used to do kickboxing and MMA until I got convicted about it by the Lord.

I played and still do, a lot of tennis and golf. We have some stunning courses round here in the Welsh mountains.

My favourite sport to play and watch is football. Nothing even comes close.

My favourite team? Cardiff City FC (and Wales of course). For all Cardiff fans they might also say "anyone playing Swansea"

lol In all seriousness though, for better or worse; I'll always be a City fan until the day I die.

Do/did you play sports?

I was lucky enough to have parents who put me into a lot of things and a school system that had lots of sports. I played hockey, football, baseball, badminton, golf, squash, bowling, and track. I am not sure if these count but I was a big winter sports (e.g., downhill skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling) and water sports guy (e.g., wakeboarding, waterskiing, and so on).

What are your favorite sports to play/watch?

I like to play all sports. I am better at hockey, baseball, and football so I guess you could say that I enjoy playing these the most. Actually, getting out on the water is probably the most enjoyable.

As far as watching goes, I watch everything…. I mean everything from racing to show jumping. However, hockey, playoff baseball, and football (CFL or NFL) are probably up at the top.

What are your favorite teams?

NCAA Football – USC/Florida
CFL – Saskatchewan Roughriders

NCAA Basketball – Kansas

Do/did you play sports?

Played soccer as a kid. Teens to Young adult was karate, softball and mountain biking. Now just weightlifting and running, will be back on the bike soon, hopefully.

What are your favorite sports to play/watch?

Play - Football, Baseball (well, Softball is more likely), poker.

Watch - Baseball (pro), Football (college then pro), Soccer, Horse racing at the track, college basketball.

What are your favorite teams?

Baseball - Detroit Tigers.
Football - Detroit Lions. Any of the Michigan college football teams, Alabama, Penn State, Navy when they beat Notre Dame and whoever's playing Ohio State.
Soccer - We barely get to see it around here.
College Hoops - whoever's playing.
Horse Racing - depends on the payout ratio.

Do/did you play sports?

I played baseball (pitcher/outfield), basketball (guard/forward), football (quarterback/safety), and soccer (goalie) growing up, taking time off from soccer once I reached high school. Played baseball briefly in college.

What are your favorite sports to play/watch?

I love to watch football, pro and college.

What are your favorite teams?

NFL- Green Bay Packers
MLB- NY Yankees
NBA- NY Knicks
NHL- Montreal
College- Old Dominion and the Naval Academy, although I will pull for Notre Dame on occasion

I was a gymnast, I played soccer (ahem, football-- sorry Welshman

), I played tennis, basketball, and bowling.... all formally. Informally, I was hugely involved in playing football (american), and swimming (including being a certified scuba diver). I also loved kickball and foursquare. ^_^

My favs to watch would be: Gymnastics, ice skating, football (american), etc. I also LOVE watching my kids in sports. These are not my favs, but I also enjoy watching an assortment of other sports, including golf.

I currently have no fav teams. :sorry:

Do/did you play sports?
Played league hockey when I was 6. Only play recreational now. Coached soccer for a while. Played as a 98lbs rugby player in grade 8 lol. Basket ball and volley ball teams in high school and the track team.

What are your favorite sports to play/watch?
Only hockey. All the rest I merely tolerate. Olympics is the exception.

Do/did you play sports? Yep, I'm a sports fanatic and played for my local teams in cricket, rugby league and soccer at one stage until work got in the way of such activities. I currently only have time for golf occasionally, and am trying to get that handicap down to single figures.
What are your favorite sports to play/watch?

Watching - Cricket (nothing beats a Test match)

Do/did you play sports?
I played basketball, baseball, and soccer in high school and sucked to high heaven at them. But it was a small private school and everyone had to play.
What are your favorite sports to play/watch?
I love American football most of all. I watch baseball and like to go to games. I have a friend who's trying to get me into hockey.
What are your favorite teams?
The 6 time World Champs the Pittsburgh Steelers. I also root for the Saints and whoever the garbage eatin' stinkbag teams are every year 'cuz I have a soft spot for the underdog. In baseball I really only follow the Rangers.

Do/did you play sports? When I was a kid, played baseball when I was younger(baseball was my 1st love sport), and then football in high school. In and out of the boxing gym as a kid.

I currently train at a Boxing/Muay Thai gym, to stay sharp and for fitness, because I do security detail at my Church.

What are your favorite sports to play/watch? To watch, I like watching football at the actual game, but I also don't mind a great game on tv. Baseball I only really like watching it at the actual game. Boxing and combat sports are my favorite to watch.
What are your favorite teams? A's baseball but they suck these days. And I gave up on Raiders football.

These days I am more amazed at the yapping of Floyd Mayweather jr. claim that Pacquiao doesn't want to fight him, lol.

"Money" Mayweather... has ducked every prime welterweight there is and claims he himself is P4P king. Meanwhile Pacquiao has teared through bigger opponents in a dominating way.

I think Mayweather could well have his hands full if Pacman gets in the ring with him.

Shame we haven't got any decent Welsh fighters around now that Calzaghe has hung up his gloves. Always fancied a trip over the pond to see him fight.

Do/did you play sports? I'm about as good with sports as Roseanne Barr is singing the national anthem (kind of an old reference, but most of you should remember that fiasco).
What are your favorite sports to play/watch? I like baseball, and I'll root for the Yankees. People around here go nuts for Clemson football almost to the point of it being off-putting.

I played/play bowling, golf, basketball, baseball, poker/cards and pool and hackey sack(I know some people wouldn't consider those sports but I personally do, just not in a 'traditional' sense).

I watch pretty much all of them but hackey sack and basketball. I also don't mind a good UFC match, or boxing match once in awhile.

Favorite sports teams are:

Ohio State Buckeyes
Cincinnati Bengals

Do/did you play sports?

In my younger days before work took over I played rugby, soccer, cricket, tennis and golf. When I was at university I played soccer for club and regular golf. Now I spend most of the year moving around Asia so don't get to play much sport but will always jump at the opportunity to do something active. Took up badminton recently, what a blast that is!

What are your favorite sports to play/watch?

My favourite sports to watch are rugby and cricket (the Anglo Saxon is strong in this one). My favourite sport to play is soccer, although I don't really enjoy watching it on TV oddly enough.
