I've been talking to my mom about some changes that came into my life and she did not understand. So I started to think: WHY? Where is the problem? I told her about how I drew closer to God and how God actually responded to that move in my life and drew closer to me and started to respond to me in a new way. Just as He promised. He said: draw close to me, and I will draw close to you. He said: separate yourselves, and I will receive you. He said: He who loves me will be loved by my Father and I too will love him and show myself to him.

So I thought: what is wrong with God communicating with me? It's not like I went off on some stringent somewhere. All I did was to decide to spend all of my free time studying the Bible and giving my time to God. And then He started to talk to me. My mom doesn't believe that God can speak to people; well, especially to somebody insignificant as I am. But don't we know that it says that God chose the poor and the uneducated of this world to shame the smart ones? Don't we know that God chose David, the smallest of the brothers to be King? Don't we know that God specializes in "nobody's" and raises them up?

Why is it so hard to believe that God can actually talk to me?

I mean, I guess, I was surprised that He did as well. But He does talk to me. I cannot escape the truth. Whether I say: no, HE can't, or yes, He can...it doesn't matter, because He does.

SO I started thinking: WHAT IS the problem? Why some people think that God wouldn't talk to me?

And then I realized what it was and I wanted to share that with some others who might be realizing that the changes are coming and they need to open up a little (or a lot) to receive them.

God is who He is. He doesn’t change. But the way people perceive God and perceive communication with God changes from time to time. People see God based on how He chooses to reveal Himself and also based on the environment they grew up in.
The best way to get a clearer picture of who God is and what He does is to look at history and see how He communicated with people throughout time and how He revealed Himself. Although, with each new time (which could be our time) He could still reveal Himself yet in a different way. So we have to be open and not put God in a box of our preconceptions.

In our current mindset, based on traditional experiences, we believe that God doesn't talk to people in general. Well, maybe it was true so far, but we need to realize that the times are changing. God is starting to talk to people.

In the past God talked to people in different ways. He had a personal and close relationship with Adam. Later, He spoke to Abraham, but only occasionally. He revealed Himself as a God who was holy and fearsome to the people of Israel. And yet He took care of them too, in a personal way, when He gave them food each day, and walked in the pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar by fire by night. He also did miracles for them. So they knew Him as a miracle working God. Sometimes, God did something big and at other times He kept silent. And during those silent times, people were being born, were growing up, were dying and did NOT experience God speaking to people or doing anything. So as generations passed, people stopped believing that God spoke directly to people and moved among them in great power.

Before Jesus’ first coming, God was more or less silent and not involved in people’s daily life. But then, a HUGE thing has happened. God, Himself has come down to us! He wasn’t just talking to us anymore, He CAME DOWN! And imagine how hard it was for the people to believe that He was God’s Son. They got used to God just being out there somewhere, distant. And they couldn’t imagine that God Himself could come down. So when Jesus came, they said: who does He think He is? He is just a carpenter’s son! Who does He think He is to compare Himself to being related to God?

Well, how would YOU feel if one of the relatives came up to you and said: I am God. So it was reasonable for people not to believe. They had no proof that He was God’s Son. Well, He did do miracles. But some people said that those were performed by demon power. People didn’t believe because they were not used to God acting among them. Because they didn’t think God Himself would come down. Because according to what they knew: God simply did not do that.

So exactly the same things happened in the church time during the last 2000 years. There were signs of God’s moving occasionally in certain places at certain times. And God spoke to some of the people sometimes. But mostly, it appears that God has kept silent. But after a long period of mostly silence, God is ready to talk. (Is 42:14, 16)

In the physical world things continue to be as we know them. People are still under the impression that God is silent. But in the spiritual world something HUGE is happening! Many people are seeing dreams that something is about to be born! Others are seeing visions and dreams about the coming glory and power and darkness. Some are given prophetic Word of the Lord in order to prepare God’s people for the coming changes.

I had a few dreams too. Also, somebody close to me started having dreams and asked the Lord why he was seeing them and whether they meant anything. And he was given this verse in response: Joel 2:29 And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

You could say: but Peter said that this verse in Joel has been fulfilled in their day. Yes. But Peter believed that they were living in the last days! But obviously, they were not. And that means that the verse is yet to be fulfilled. WE ARE the ones living in the last days.

(Note: it’s not surprising that Peter was mistaken about the idea that they were living in the last days because Jesus said “of that day or hour nobody knows”, not even the apostles, not even the Son of Man.)

But more precisely, that scripture basically is to be fulfilled twice. Jesus compared the Kingdom of God to a process of harvest. A harvest has an early rain to make way for the sowing of seeds and has a later rain (called autumn rain, or latter rain?) for the harvest to come in. So in the same fashion, when Christ just sowed the seeds of His church during the days of the apostles, the rain of the Holy Spirit came upon them. And now, it’s getting close to the actual harvest of the Church. And so the latter rain of the Holy Spirit is coming.

The children of God are being prepared to become fully filled with God’s Spirit and His power and His glory and to be JESUS to the world. We are the body of Jesus. And so Jesus Christ, through us, will walk on this earth in power once again. We will do what He did: set the captives free, be a light to the Gentiles, do miracles, have power and authority. Take His message into all the world like in the days of the apostles only on a much greater scale! And the devil knows it and is preparing for it. The people of God will break the chains of bondage to sin and will walk in the ways of holiness. Jesus Christ will truly become the center and theme of their lives.

It says: Then the LORD will be jealous for his land and take pity on his people. JOE 2:18

Why does the Lord pity His people? Because they have been eating crumbs from His table. They have not known the glorious riches of His blessings and His joy and abundant life. His people are in bondage to sin and the evil one. His people groan in spiritual chains. They cannot overcome sinful nature and keep crying and failing and feeling bad about it. They live like slaves to sin. And when Jesus came he set the captives free. And the Lord’s Spirit will visit the earth once again to set the captives free.

Many people are seeing dreams where it’s showing the battle between the two people and how one of them wins at the end. Some are illustrated by fighting with an “old man”. Old man represents our sinful nature. And the Spirit of God is saying that we will have the victory over our sinful nature. If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. JOH 8:36 It’s by the Spirit that we kill the deeds of the flesh. (Rom 8:13) The Lord will take pity on His people and send them spiritual food, spiritual power, spiritual riches:

Joel 2:19 The LORD will reply to them: "I am sending you grain, new wine and oil, _enough to satisfy you fully_… rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, _both autumn and spring rains, as before_….28 "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. … I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke.31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

Jesus said: the Father and I are one. It is the Father living in me who does the miracles and speaks the words.

That was before Jesus’ death. But after Jesus’ death, we joined the family of ONE. We rec’d the Spirit and became the Temple of God’s Spirit. Are we not one with God? Jesus lives in us, we live in Him. God’s Spirit lives in us. We live in God. We are one. And if we are one, we can say like Jesus said: the Father living in me is the one doing the miracles. And the words I am speaking are not my own, but it is the Father speaking through me. We are Jesus. We are His body. He is our head, our life, our power, and we are His hands and feet and mouth.

When Jesus came, the Holy Spirit took Him into the wilderness just before His ministry. We are the body of Jesus. And so the Holy Spirit is calling the current body of Jesus into the wilderness. In the wilderness is where people are tested and tried and come out as pure gold and ready for the glory. The glory is coming and men will see it. But it’s in the wilderness where the way for the glory is being prepared.

ISA 40:3 A voice of one calling: "_In the desert_ prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. …5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it.

In the wilderness is where people draw close to God and where God reveals to them in a close and intimate fashion. And where people learn to depend on God only and trust Him to meet their needs.

Joel 2:14 I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her…In that day," declares the LORD, "you will call me 'my husband'; you will no longer call me 'my master.'

SON 8:5 Who is this that cometh *up _from the wilderness_*_, leaning upon her beloved_?

God says that He wants to deal with His Church like in the days of Israelites when they first came out of Egypt. HOS 12:9 In the wilderness, God led the Israelites personally. He took care of their daily needs. He did miracles among them. He provided for them. In the wilderness, a person learns to love God and as a result to perfectly submit to Him and and lets HIM take control of his body and his mind. When we let the Spirit to kill the deeds of our flesh, we start to live a victorious life. (Rom 8:6-13) Through the prophesies, God’s people are promised joy and peace and protection in the midst of the dark storm of the last days. God says: in the eye of the storm, with me, is peace and calm. On the outer edges is destruction. One person has been asked to draw a picture of calm and serenity. So one drew a peaceful lake. The other drew a nest of a bird, which was situated above a huge waterfall. There was a mother bird and a baby bird. And the baby bird was peacefully sleeping. So this is the true picture of Christianity and their peace among the storm. God is our refuge and there is peace under the shadow of His wings, if you cling to Him. Ps 91

So the changes are coming. But people usually are not very receptive to the changes. When Jesus came, He said: I have come to bring separation. Family members will oppose each other. And it’s because some family members belong to this world and some belong to God. Jesus said that people will kill you thinking that they are serving God. Jesus experienced persecution from religious leaders. Jesus was saying: if they persecuted me, surely they will also persecute you. If religious leaders didn’t listen to God himself, it’s safe to assume that they won’t listen to mere people. And of course it’s because many Christians don’t know God. Mat 7:21

Some people don’t believe in prophesies. They say: how can we know which is of God and which is not? Since we can’t know, we’ll take the safest route and just not believe any of them. But is that what God wants? He said: do not ignore the prophesies.

1TH 5:19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire; 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good.

Why? Because that’s how He speaks to us. If we never listen to any, we’ll miss all of His messages. After all it’s GOD who said that He will make people prophesy. JOE 2:28

Some people in Jesus’ days did not believe Moses even though they followed the law. Joh 5:46 And some Christians don’t believe what Paul says. He says:

1Cor 14:1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.

But instead, some people run away from all spiritual stuff. Some people are unfamiliar with the spiritual world and are afraid of it because all they heard was negative reports. But let’s not forget that God is a Spirit. And the spiritual world is His natural realm. And that’s where we need to go to meet with Him. God knew that there are false prophets and John said:

1JO 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

But they did not say: run away from all spiritual stuff. They said: test, and find the good.

Spiritual world is like any other thing: it has good and bad sides. There are good and bad guys. Some people don’t use the internet and hear only about inappropriate contentography. So they associate internet with inappropriate contentography. So you say you go on the internet and they are thinking: you’ll get to see lots of inappropriate content. But those who use the internet know that it’s the coolest place and the great source of all kinds of godly material. Where people go and what they see depends on WHO THEY ARE. If they are bad, they will go cling to bad stuff/people. If they are good, they will attract the good.

When Jesus came and some people didn’t believe in Him, did He try to convince them? No. In fact, one time, when many people were following Him, He told them: you must eat my flesh. And most people left Him at that point. Jesus actually did not want the unbelievers joining Him. He didn’t want people joining Him for the wrong reasons. He wanted only His sheep to follow Him.

But how did His sheep know to believe in Jesus? The Father reveals it to them!

MAT 16:17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for _this was_ not _revealed to you_ by man, but _by my Father_ in heaven.

Jesus explained why some did not believe in Him. He said that you don’t believe me because your father is the devil and you don’t have a love for God in your hearts. . Joh 10: 24-26, 8:43-47, 5:37-42 But my sheep WILL hear my voice (believe in me). Joh 10:14, 10:27, 8:47 Why? Because the Father will reveal to them that I am true. And because they love God and therefore, are God’s own.

So it will be in these last days. God’s true sheep will believe God’s messengers (at some point). And the rest will be deceived by the evil one. Not only there is no proof, but also, it will be almost impossible to tell the true from the fake. The devil loves to imitate God and will show up as a messenger of light to confuse even and the elect ones.

MAT 24:24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect - if that were possible.

Miracles themselves won’t tell you whether a person is of God or not. Because as this verse says, even the false prophets will perform them.

But fortunately, as this verse says, it won’t be POSSIBLE to deceive the elect because the Father living in us will reveal the truth to us. Look into your heart, and listen to what your heart tells you. But at the same time, make sure your heart is open and you didn’t put God in the box and decided that He could only act this one way. But just trust Him to keep you safe in His arms. Jesus said: My Father is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. Joh 10:29

If you truly love God and what He stands for, don’t worry. No one can snatch you out. God promised to keep you safe from the evil one.

2TI 4:18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom.

JUD 1:24 To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault…

I realize that it's hard to know whether God will keep you from falling or not. It's a topic which people have argued about for ages. But I found something I didn't see before which gives me encouragement and tells me: you are safe, you cannot be deceived. But certain criteria apply.

PSA 55:22 Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.

Note that it says: righteous. God will not let the righteous fall. I started wondering why it says that. I also realized (after study) that there is a certain group of people on this earth whom God considers "righteous" and He will not let THEM fall.

But I did wonder why He needs to keep the righteous from falling? Doesn't righteous already mean that somebody is walking close with God?

There is another verse which seems to say the same thing:

PSA 37:23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm;
24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

So after studying, I realized that keeping righteous ones from falling means to keep them from being deceived and from going astray into false teachings.

So that means: IF I AM righteous, God will keep me from being deceived.

But what is righteous? I propose that we don't really know what it means. I think that we confuse our righteousness with righteousness of God. Being righteous is a matter of love. It's not a matter of following the rules out of duty or out of fear. And also, to be righteous, is a lot easier than we think. Remember Jesus said:

MAT 11:29 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

So here is what being righteous means in a nutshell: you come really really close to God (get to know Him), you fall in love with God and you will start to have a desire produced in you to obey Him. And then, obeying Him will not be a matter of great sacrifice anymore. Since you will be doing it out of love for God, it will be easy for you. If it's not easy for you yet, that means you didn't really fall in love with God yet. His burden is light. And you know why? It's because He is the one carrying it and we only reap the benefits with a little efforts. When we try hard to be righteous, then it's our own righteousness, which is not pleasing to God in the first place. When all we do is truly deeply love God, then Christ's rigtheouss will come out of us all by itself. We will be changed from the inside. That's the way it works. God's life in us will make us do the righteous things. But not the other way around. Because when we try to do the deeds on our own (apart from being deeply in love with God), then it's not the real righteousness. It's only the righteousness of pharisees. But we need the righteousness of Christ, which only comes as a result of loving God. ONLY as a RESULT of loving God. Never before. Never apart.

I talk about it in detail here, if you are interested:

Audibly? This may be the area where mom is having a hard time understanding.

People like Charles Manson claimed to have voices from God too.

I think God called you to be a writer. You sure write alot. How old are you? You seem very mature to be at home with a mom.

Peace,

God's communication with us isn't like it was before Christ came. Since Christ he no longer needs to say anything, because we already know since he lives in us in a way he wasn't able to in the past (because of Christ). We can now have the mind of God, so we no longer need to be told anything.

And on arguing with your mom, that's not a good idea. Suppose she discusses your problem with her friends and they come to the conclusion that you need to be committed.

What's better than voices? Charity. And anyone who claims to love God better have evidence of that in their lives. Jesus himself never even claimed to love God, he only claimed to honor him.

Some people just can't understand certain things. A bad example, I know, but I remember when my ex's mother learned I wanted to be a writer, and she said I couldn't be because I lived here and hadn't been anywhere. Makes no sense to me since I was wanting to write fiction but there ya go. People are especially wary of religion and stuff they don't experience themselves. Even I am in a way. I don't put others down or disbelieve them, but some people have things happen with them that simply never happen with my relationship with God. I can't understand it exactly because it's so different than what happens with me, but I do respect it.

I hope you keep an open mind about that conclusion because God DOES talk and WILL talk and it will be in bad form for you not to listen to Him...

And anyone who claims to love God better have evidence of that in their lives. Jesus himself never even claimed to love God, he only claimed to honor him.

JOH 14:31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

God is love. Everything is about love. Jesus is God, so Jesus is love. How could He not love the Father? That's impossible.

The Bible said: love the Lord your God and your neighbor and on these two hang the law and the prophets. MAT 22:37 -40 ROM 13:10

Jesus said that He will spit out the "luke warm" church. REV 3:16 What do you think "luke warm" means? No love

MAT 24:12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,

Why do you think luke warm church with no love thought they were OK in God's eyes? They thought they were rich. Because they were doing a lot of deeds and ministries and church going and other stuff. They thought they are doing great pursuing their own righteousness, doing the charity. But they missed the most important thing: LOVE for GOD.

REV 2:4 REV 3:8 I know your deeds....Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.

That's what pharisees missed as well.

See, the pharisee went to the temple to pray and was happy with himself and said: thank you God that I am better than all those tax collectors. LUK 18:10
He had his righteousness, he had his charity and his deeds. But what was he missing? LOVE!

JOH 5:42 but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.

You see, God knows that we fall short of being righteous in deeds. And that's why He Himself CREDITS it to us (for free). But on one condition: we must love God.

So, the rule is this: you love God, and then He credits you His rigtheousness.

If you have only charity, then it's your own righteousness and it is like being "naked" in the eyes of God. Our own righteousness falls short of God's requirements. The tax collector in the temple KNEW that he was lost without God's righteousness. And THAT'S why God accepted Him and credited Him Christ's righteousness.

LOVE LOVE LOVE It's all about love! Read the new testament with this perspective and you will see LOVE everywhere!

1CO 13:3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

I don't mean to offend, but I feel that you are not asking sincerely. I feel like it's a rhetorical question.

If I am wrong, then I am sorry for assuming this. PM me and we can talk. It will take lots of my time to tell you, but I am willing if you are truly interested, if you are truly a seeker. I really don't have time to waste for non-seekers.

God bless

I stand corrected. Though in that instance he only spoke to his disciples. He never publicly said that he loved God.

And I still don't buy the position that God still speaks to us. Though I do believe that wicked spirits which have not been overcome still have the authority to whisper garbage into our ears.

Those spirits operate by the power of the accuser mentioned here:

Revelations 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

God bless

I am sincere - but if you prefer to PM me, that is fine too.

SPR,

I "buy" the position that God will do what ever He wants, whenever He wants, in any way that He wants. Because he hasn't done something in living memory clearly does not mean He won't start doing it tomorrow, or maybe he's doing it today and I just don't see it.

This story intreagues me and rings very true. (just a "gut" feeling) I want to hear more.

Hmmm....so wicked spirits can do more than God does? Is that what you're saying? Seems to me that God can do what He wants, when He wants, how He wants, and no wicked spirit is going to have a wider range of latitude than the Lord of Hosts. Does God still speak to us today? I believe He does. I challenge you to ask Him to reveal to you how He speaks, and ask Him to speak to you. I'll bet you won't.

SPR! Jesus himself never even claimed to love God, he only claimed to honor him.

How can You even say such a thing as Jesus never claimed to Love God???Was that not the commandment that He gave Us Love God with all of our heart, soul and Mind??

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for them who believe in me though their message, that all of them may be one, Father just as you are in Me and I am in You . May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me. "I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You have sent Me, and have loved them ,as You have loved Me"

" Father I want those You have given Me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory You have given Me, because You loved Me before the beginning of the world.

Righteous Father, though the world does not know You, I know You, and they know that You have sent Me. I have made You known to them and I will continue to make You known in order that the love You have for Me may be in them and that I myself may be in them. John 17:20-26

You don't call that Love? Just what is it then....?

Can you point us to the Scriptural reference to your belief that God no longer speaks to us?

As someone else on CF has stated, God is not the great "I WAS", he is the great "I AM". Since God is the same today as he was yesterday and will be tomorrow and forever more, and since God is all powerful and all knowing, I would tend to think that He can communicate with us anyway He chooses. Most often with me personally, He communicates to me through Scripture, but I don't think God is limited to speaking to us only Scripture.

I have never audibly heard God speak to me.
He has spoken to me through His word.
He has spoken to me through conviction and circumstances.
He has spoken to me through others.
Now because He has not spoken to me audibly, does that mean I'm less spiritual or less receptive to His voice?
Maybe I'm not good enough?
I am sure God may voice Himself as He see's fit. I am also sure that God seeks the best circumstances for certain individuals to get their attention. And some people like me, He has to practically crack with a two-by-four just to get a word in edgewise!
Psa.46:10 "Be still and know that I am God."
