• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

that's the way i feel sometimes too...but to think about giving up on God scares me and I get anxious when the thought even crosses my mind---but i also get anxious whenever i hear christian things because im afraid of having bad thoughts or doing something blasphemous. the only thing i can tell you is to keep praying for strength and just hang in there.

the question is do you care ..if you care about have no desire then it is possible to have one for him ....its only when you stop caring that you dont care thats the danger but then again you would not even know it ..

the point is your heart is softer than you might think

But that's just it. How do I know that I really do care or if I am putting on a show?

Plus I used to care a lot about this. Yet now it's not happening.

only you would know that you really care. about anything. Do you not care about Church? Is it because of some people and the way they treat you?

Do you not care about Jesus? Do you really know Him? Have you read His stories? Im of the opinion that if you really knew about Him you just couldnt turn away.

If the bible you have is difficult for you there are others. Online too. free. Biblegateway.com for one. It has a lot of different translations. the NLT is very easy to read.

I don't know if I do. Lately I have been putting other things above God. I am scared of talking to God. I have been doubting whether or not He exists.

Because you are concerned and even worried about this indicates, to me at least, that you do care about your relationship with God. You may not FEEL any love toward Him (I don't either), but that doesn't mean that you don't care or that you are not a Christian. When you have OCD, especially OCD with spiritual issues, it is difficult to have the same type of relationship with God that non-OCD Christians have. I believe, however, that God understands this and does not condemn us for it. I don't read my Bible as much as I used to, and, at least for now, I've given up on prayer because of OCD issues, but I still consider myself a Christian and could never walk away from God. As scripture indicates,"He will never leave or forsake us". Try to take comfort in that -- it is about Him, not us. I'm currently reading a very good book: The Misunderstood God by Darin Hufford. It can be found at Border's or Barnes and Noble. He also has a website -- free believers.

I know it's not easy, and I go back and forth too, but hang in there.

Every time I try to trust in Jesus to save me, it never seems to work. People say read your Bible or pray. But I barely seem to do it. Plus I am doubting whether or not I believe in God and His existence.

I understand exactly what you mean ...

But about God's existence it cannot be proven ....if fact the way way we can know that God exists is by his revelation We know God exists because he came to us in the person of Jesus Christ who is God himself

Well, by unforgivable, I mean that I always seem to think that I have committed the unforgivable sin. You know, when you reject God so many times that your heart becomes so hardened that you can't be forgiven. That's what I mean.

As for getting saved, what do you suggest I do? Every time I try to depend on Jesus only, it always seems like I'm either not depending on Him, or that I am depending on Him plus something else.

For those that have knowledge of OCD, is it common to develop it at fifteen? Because I got these doubts like four months ago.

I'm 17 and I've had religious OCD since I was 16 and as far back as I remember I've always counted things or re-touched things and other non-religious stuff. I think you can develope it at any age.

I have never had any type of OCD in my life until now.

Well, I say I want to be a Christian, but my actions say otherwise. It's like I don't care about Christianity anymore. I also get uncomfortable when around things about God. What should I do?

Ask the Lord to help you want to do what you know is right. He knows all about you, he wants to hear it from you. I went though this to an extent...I grew cold toward the Lord, but my heart kept telling me it was wrong, so I just told God howI felt and to please help me to do better. And he did.:preach:

I believe God's grace and mercy far surpass any doubts we have concerning his existence. He understands we have an illness that may prevent us from relating to Him as others without OCD do. As it says in the Psalms "He knows our frame" and He knew before we were even born that we would struggle with this illness. I don't think He holds it against us. If He did, where would grace and mercy come in? No one is perfect in their relationship with God. Even "regular" people go through dry periods in their faith journey. I don't read my bible and pray much either because I tend to obsess on whether or not I'm understanding everything perfectly, and this can be very frustrating. Because of this, I too felt I was unsaved. I shared this with my therapist, and he told me this was not the case (he is a Christian) and that God does understand and that this is where faith in His promises comes in. I'm hoping that someday I will be able to read my bible in a relaxed manner and not to have to worry about understanding everything perfectly. It's weird because I can read other Christian books, both fiction and non-fiction, and not worry about this. In fact I skim through much of my reading of this material and don't even think about my understanding everything in a perfect way.

As another person indicated, the fact that you WANT to believe shows that you belong to Him. Think of it as the person in the bible who said to Jesus: "Lord I believe, help my unbelief".

I hope this helps. I'm a lot older than most of you in this thread, and I've had OCD/scrupulosity since I was 13 years old. I know how awful it can be, but hang on to whatever little faith you have.
