We are not at just over 14 months and I'm back at fulltime work and he is still breastfeeding well.

I was so nervous about going back to work, I wasn't sure how either of us would cope and it took 6 weeks until he actually could be dropped off at day care without tears, but he seems to be settling in now.

He will still feed when I get home and I am allowed an extra half hour paid break to express. And even with my rotating shiftwork it is working out ok, although not sure about night shift as I haven't done that yet. He still sleeps with me, and will feed during the night. some nights more than others, so I'm not sure how he will cope with my first night.

Anyway there's my life story :)

I just can't express how beautiful and special this breastfeeding relationship that I have with my son is.
I didn't perservere with DD and now I realise how much we both missed out on.

We're still off and on bfing Jonathan (he took a break before the baby was born and had one really good nursing session on Wednesday when I got home -- I needed relief!), I think DH really wants me to wean him, but I am not ready. I just need help getting him on/off the couch or bed so I can nurse him, as I had a c-section last week.

Baby Teddy arrived on the 6th, and though I couldn't nurse him for 2 days, we've an awesome nursing relationship now. :)

Congrats on your new arrival HadassahSukkot! I'm glad all is going well for you!

My little one is almost 5 months now and still nursing great! Actually he's nursing so great that he's gone from bottles only at birth to "get that nasty fake thing away from me" at 4 1/2 months. Yup if I'm not available he will not eat! And he won't fuss about it either...DH or Nursery worker (church) will offer him a bottle of expressed milk and he MIGHT take an ounce of it and then be content to just play and wait for me to come back...once I'm back though all bets are off and he will NOT WAIT another second to be fed!

HI Ladies...I am new here and jumping in.

I am currently nursing our 5th...he is 17mo and still nurses about 10-12 times a day (or more!!!). So I don't think he will be stopping anytime soon.

In total with all five kids, I have about 77 months of nursing experience. WOW that's a lot!! OK...sticker shock when I had to figure that one out...lol.
Our others nursed:
#1- 9mo
#2- 15mo
#3- 16mo
#4- 20mo
I really hope #5 goes longer...and it seems he will. I have always wanted to go to at least 24mo, but so far none of mine have held out that long. (We do child led weaning, except with the first- I "had" to stop then because of medical issues and being pregnant. Of course if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have stopped- but that's another story altogether isn't it).

My oldest turned 3 last month. I nursed him until 3 months ago. My daughter is about 20 months and I'm still nursing her, my 3rd is due in March, and I'm going to see if I can week Jill before the new baby... but she isn't having anything to do with it yet. Makes for one tired momma!!!

Nice to "meet" you all!

I'm still nursing my little man at 5 months, but his latch has gotten a little lazy lately and my right side is VERY sore, any suggestions for getting it to heal and still nursing my babe? I think I've got the latch problem fixed but I didn't realize it was his latch till the damage was already done.

Is the soreness on the surface or deep down?

If it's because of the latch (ie- surface soreness), I would recommend lanolin on your breasts every time you nurse...it will help heal you up nicely.

If it's a deeper pain, then it could be a clogged duct. What kind of pain is it?

I would definitely suggest lanolin then. You can also nurse less on that side for a few days (if you can handle it supply wise)...your other side should do fine with picking up a few more feedings. I nurse mostly (98% of the time) from one side, and it works fine. I had to start doing that when I got mastitus with baby #3. I completely quit with that side after that because no matter what I did it kept getting worse. So I nursed most of her 16 months on just one side. When #4 came along, I did fine with both sides for a few months, then started seeing the same kinds of things happening (clogged ducts) in that one side, so I had to go to only using it rarely. Same thing happened with #5. So we just nurse off of one side most of the time now.

Lanolin should help you heal though.

during times like these (and after bites once they have teeth) a nipple shield is GREAT! They are usually sold for those with flat or inverted nipples, but I find them the best solution IN THE WORLD for pain!!

I have friends that have used them for mastitas & w/ newborns who have bad latch too.
