Christians & Guns

"If we are killed how are we suppose to spread the word of God"

If we are KILLING how are we suppose to spread the word of God? Are we not by killing/harming a person promoting hatred, evil, greed and violence towards the human race...

So pretty much what we are saying here is:

"Come believe in God of truth and love, one who died on a cross for every man woman child being and plant on this earth so that we may live, and that because of this act of great love, we may have a desire to live according to Gods teachings... But if you come anywhere near me or threaten me and my material possessions i'm going to blow your head off"

Ahhhh..... Christianity at its best!

GOD BLESS GUNS!

............."So pretty much what we are saying here is:But if you come anywhere near me or threaten me and my material possessions i'm going to blow your head off"..........

If you read the thread that is not what they are saying. We all have a right to protect ourselves. That is part of our make up. All creatures have an inate desire to live. Do you? Show me in the Bible were it says we should not protect ourselves. We do let people get close. But you are a fool to let someone harm you.

............"Are we not by killing/harming a person promoting hatred, evil, greed and violence towards the human race..."................

How is the above statement true if you are only protecting your life.

Matthew 5:39
But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Luke 6:29
If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.

Luke 6:27
"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

Luke 6:35
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

We have a RIGHT to protect the word of God, we have a right to protect our neighbour, I don't believe we have the right to bring harm to another person. The bible states it very clearly, that we love our neighbour and we "...turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic."

Also,

You say we all have a right to protect ourselves as it is part of our makeup...

Maybe so, but it is part of the makeup of sin that resulted from the fall. Not from God. We do not have the right or the power to take it on ourselves to destroy another person. Weather they are threatening us or not. This is NOT acting in love for or neighbour/enemy!

Please give me the bible verse that tells me we can kill or cause harm to people?! New testement please!

Psalms 82:3  Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

This verse sort of sums it up. It says to defend the poor and do justice to the afflicted. It doesn't say to let people push each other around and let them do what they want. You may not like it because it is out of the old testament but it is still the Word of God.

Reminds me of a joke...flooding started and a sheirff came by a man's house and asked him to evacuate. The man said, no God will protect me. The flooding started and a rescue person came by in a rowing boat and asked the man to get in and he would take him to safety, the man said, no God will save me. the flood kept up and the man had to go to the 2nd story. A large pontoon (sp) boat came by with more rescue workers and they pleaded with the man to get in the boat and he said, no God will saved me. Finally the flood waters became so high he retreated to the roof. A helacopter came and lowered a rope and he refued to climb up it saying God will save me. Finally he drown. He got to heaven and asked God why didn't he save him. God said, I sent a sheriff, two boats and a helacopter you just refused my help. I think you're thoughs are right on Bear.

Why don't you ask Stephen? (Acts 7.) He was prepared to die for Christ.

Obviously, you just don't have that kind of faith...

aaron -

Die for Christ yes, but die just because someone wants to break into my house or harm me, family, or friends NO.

Nobody's asking you to.

You told me that Obviously, you just don't have that kind of faith because I would not die for someone who just wants to do something for his own good. I have plenty of faith. I could say that I may have more than you but that would be flaming, so I will not. God gives to us what we need, He provides. May I revise this joke that outspoken has written? Thank you.

A guy breaks into a house and is very angry. He prays to God please protect me. (which is definitely a smart thing to do) Now this Christian has a gun but doesn't want to even touch it. The man keeps getting more and more angy but the Christian will not even touch the knife that is laying around. He continues to pray. Finally the man kills the Christian. The Christian goes to Heaven and asks God, "God why didn't you save me." God replies, "I supplied you with the means to protect yourself but you refused to take action."

You see praying is definitely a great thing to do and should always be done. But you need to do more than just pray you need to take action.
