The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I think instead of trying to prevent it from happening, it would be more efficient to not even think about it at all. I believe reading the Bible consistently and engaging in various types of activities (no, I don't mean TV watching or movie watching, as those tend to ignite the flame abruptly) would help not to dwell on the thought at all. If you keep count at the days you haven't masturbated, it's like saying "ok, I'm going to see how far I go without doing it", which means some day you'll do it but you'll just prolonging the days. I remember when I quit smoking, the only way to do it was just put my foot down and just stop; I mean, seriously just stop and it actually worked.
I have been struggling with the same problem that a lot of you are going through. I really want to get over it now. I just feel so ashamed to be called the disciple of Christ!

I'm a young christian. I find it difficult to live in the world and not have temptations. I am still a virgin and I plan on being so until marriage, but I touch...often. At my best I have gone as long as a week without doing it, and at my worse as often as 3 times a day. I try but I actually wonder where masturbation ranks. I know that sin is sin, regardless of what it may be, but in the christian community is masturbation as bad as sex?
