Which of the following is a good person to you?

A) A no religion man who does charity works and volunteer works all his life.

B) A murderer who decides to become a christian just before he dies.

I'd say they're equal in the end. :)

I would agree with you Suzy.

If a person is truly charitable, does good from his heart, and loves all men, then God is with him.

If a person truly repents for his sins, then God is also with him.

No - in both scenarios there is an acceptance of Jesus/God - one for their entire life as demonstrated through their good works, one at the last moment similiar to the theif on the cross.

So you believe one can accept Jesus without accepting Jesus?

Actually, in the first scenario, the man doesn't accept Jesus/God. Just because he acts in an ideal way doesn't mean he believes in God or whatnot.

 Aren't yall supposed to be moderators??? Yet you're on a CHRISTIAN board telling folks that someone who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and someone who does not, in the end are the same?

Maria, please clarify for me if I'm reading this incorrectly. But is your statement
If a person is truly charitable, does good from his heart, and loves all men, then God is with him.
supposed to be about the man who didn't accept Christ in the given scenario? Note, I'm only saying he did not accept Christ because the OP distinguishes between the two as one haven accepted Christ.

Good works IS NOT an indication that someone has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

By their fruits shall you know them!

Did not Christ say that? And if He did, then are not fruits the same as works?

Bad works (like murder) leading to condemnation

Good works (like loving your enemy) leading to righteousness.

Works can imitate fruit. They are NOT the same. There are works and there are good works. Good works are the result of the Holy Spirit. Works are not. Like Ted Turner people can do good works and still be ready to bust hell wide open.

Bad works (like murder) leading to condemnation

Moses was a murderer.

Good works (like loving your enemy) leading to righteousness.

Righteousness is imputed by Jesus Christ, not by works.

Which is better, someone who does okay but not as well as he could and is happy with that, or someone who has done poorly but taken the steps necessary to do much better in the future and to reach his potential?

I don't know - really they could be the same person... volunteering and charity work doesn't automatically make you a "good" person, having killed someone doesn't automatically make you a "bad" person.

The Second one: You arn't saved by good works but by grace. Read this to find out what good is: The Good Test Lets not fool ourselves into thinking you can earn God's approval. Its a lie of the devil.

I like Isaiah's point of view in chapter 1, about ceasing to do evil and learning to do good. Since it is the voice of God talking, I'll take God's word that he wants us to do good.

I try not to judge people. There are however people I get along with and others I don't.

I do try to avoid axe murderers though.
