So...let me get this straight...people in Germany aren't allowed to read in the German translation?
What about the Geneva translation (the one carried by most immigrants to America)?

And spanish readers can't use some translation other than KJV?

And my using the Hebrew and Greek is wrong too?
Gosh...that would seem like an awful lot of the bibles out there being a sin to use.
Word for word equivalents versus thought for thought equivalents...

John, you know that none of us is supporting a KJVO position...right? In fact, I am strongly opposed to the King James Only movement.

Not to continue to sidetrack the thread but most typical KJV Onlyists would state that they are KJV Only for those that speak English. Some will say you should translate from the English KJV to Spanish, German or etc. Some will also accept translating from the TR manuscripts to Spanish, German or etc. The really far out will say you need to teach everyone English so they can read the only true word of God. Did you know that his is common in Islamic circles? Some believe that only the Arabic Koran is god's word.

That is insane...

When Jesus was about there was two different translations of the Tenakh running about then. (three if you count the one sold to the Samaritans that caused so much hostility) In Palestine they mostly used the Hebrew/Aramaic version...but when the writing apostles wrote their prospective letters they used the Septuagent to make scriptural quotes...even Stephen used the Greek translation of the Tenakh when he made his address (albeit ever loosely).

The King James version was for use in England. Many of the big push of settlers here in America carried the Geneva(complete with Apocrypha)...and later they bought or brought the Revised Standard Version.

Never mind the fact that most of the founding fathers had their own personally made english translation of the bible from Greek and Latin manuscripts. Jefferson tried to get his used for a textbook or something...can't remember specifically.

Either way...there have always been many many translations of the Bible into English out there used...I personally like the 1611 verson...it has the punishments for not having the bible in a public place all listed out.

will wonders never cease?
:waaah:

No. Love is wonderful. :)

1 Corinthians 13:8-13 ESV
8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

:waaah:

So that is directed at me?
Or the fact that Jefferson did this is the "wonder"???
If you doubt that what is in that article is true, my uncle has a copy of it. It's worth "too much for me to breath on" apparently according to him. lol

nope...just your agreement with anything I ever have to say...

Like I stated in the other thread...when a brother or sister says something I agree with...I got their back. :)
When a brother or sister is acting and posting like a ninny(is that still a word???) I'll state that too. ;)

Forgive me but are there really that many schisms that there are even seventh day baptists?...sigh
I went to an independent Baptist Church for a bit over two years...but i now attend and serve at an American Baptist Church.....
I however make no claim to denominations...I am a Christian and that is all I proclaim.
I love the poetry of the KJV...but i use several different versions in my studies. The version i have used throughout Bible College is the KJV.
The Churches I have attended seem to love the NIV and the Message Bible.
I prefer KJV, NIV, RSV.

The Message....REALLY?
That's unexpected for an IFB IMHO. I'm not trying to be stereotypical either...all the IFB churches in my area use the KJV, and advertise it on their signs.
"Independent, Fundamental, King James" on most of them.
No biggie, just info for you all. :)

I second that motion ^_^

What? The message is a paraphrase. It isn't really even scripture. It has as much authority as a study bible foot note.

Here is my position on that...I dont like it very much however there are many people in the urban areas that do not read well. The message gets the general point across to lead people to the light. So if God uses it to lead people to Himself...I just bow down and accept the results.

I agree. However, a bible must be consulted in order to determine truth from untruth.

The message is good for milk. But it isn't actually a real bible. It more like a very detailed tract or novel based on the bible.
