Besides the normally very expensive(insurance usually doesn't cover it) colon cleanings done at a medical office, has anyone found/used a pill or liquid to clean out the colon? A while ago, when I was really interested, I googled the subject and read various reviews of pills, but many seemed to not live up to their claims. Anyone have a good experience yet with anything?

It's true that colon cleansing is a scam. The products that claim to detox you actually cause the intestine to produce what comes out.

If you want to get cleaned out really well, drink some mineral oil.

can you really drink mineral oil?

Psyllium seed husks work great for cleaning the colon and bananas are

very good food for feeding the bacteria in the colon. Low fat yogurt also

with live bacteria is good too. Also veggies and fruits which contain

insoluble fiber all help keep the colon clean.

I totally agree with the Psyllium! It is the best colon cleanser there is! I have tried many kinds, and I finally ended up with Metamucil pink lemonade flavor because it is the only one that doesn't gag me. You MUST drink plenty of water or else it will work in the opposite way! I take at least 2 heaping teaspoons at a time. You should start out with a little, and gradually work up to more, or you will get stomach cramps.

Yes, there are legit colon cleansing options. They are what one must endure before going to the doctor for a colonoscopy. As someone who has had to have a colonoscopy before (as direct relatives on both sides have had colon cancer), I'll just share the prep the doctor gave me before going in for the procedure. Believe me, they wouldn't perform the procedure unless you were cleaned out. It used to be that they would give prescription options to prepare, but many doctors will give you entirely over-the-counter options these days, as mine did. Here is what I used, except that I mixed the MIRALAX POWDER with lemonade. I still hate lemonade to this day.

1. Four DULCOLAX LAXATIVE tablets from the pharmacy-- MUST BE THE LAXATIVE PILLS! (over-the-counter).
2. MIRALAX POWDER 238gm bottle (over-the-counter).
3. 64 oz. of Gatorade or Powerade. Diabetics may use diet soda, any flavor.

First, take all four Dulcolax tablets. It will probably take about 2-3 hours before the action begins.

Mix the entire 238 gram bottle of Miralax with 2 quarts of Gatorade in a large pitcher.

Two hours after the Dulcolax, start drinking your Miralax cocktail. You should pace yourself to drink about eight 8 ounce glasses (64oz.) over a 2-4 hour period, roughly one glass every 15-30 minutes, until finished.

Expect to use the facilities at least 10-15 times. The stool should be clear, lemonade-like, not sludgy or brown. Expect some cramps.

I live in India and I think the best Ayurvedic (herbal Indian) medicine for colon cleansing is Triphala. Just google 'triphala for colon cleansing' and you will find a lot many results.

My in-laws fully believe in Ayurvedic medicines and they swear by Triphala, it comes in powder and tablets forms too.
Its 100% herbal and with no side effects.
Try getting it in your place, if you can't get it send me a pm..
i will try sending the best brand from here (the courier charges will make it economically unviable though, so better try getting it in your place)

Be blessed

Colon cleansing is twofold.

1. Cleaning out the volume of poop in the guts.

2. Cleaning the poop stuck to the intestings.

Taking care of the volume of poop is easy. All you have to do is take a laxative. I'd recommend a cheap bottle of magnesium citrate. Should cost less than $2. Do not do this often as it can dehydrate you and deplete your electrolytes to dangerous/deadly levels.

Taking care of the poop stuck to the intestines can be done with fibrous fruits and vegetables, ie eat an apple or some spinach/kale. As the apple skin or leafy green goes through the intestines it will brush clean the pipes.

Of course once you get your fatty big mac value meal you will undo your colon cleanse in 1 sitting. Living healthy is a lifestyle. Its not in taking a miracle pill once a day or doing some procedure that allows you to be unhealthy the rest of the time.

ITA with this. Another vote for psyllium husks; I like the fact that it is gentle. It feels like a regular bowel movement, not the "[wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth], I took a laxitiive and I have to go NOW!" feeling that you get from ExLax.

Heating food can destroy many essential nutrients to help keep the intestines healthy. Try eating vegetables raw that can be eaten without cooking. Refrigerate and eat bread when they are soft and fresh, do not toast. White sugar is eliminated when there is enough water drunken and nutrients absorbed in the intestines. I drink sugared softdrink with lemonjuice-flavoured icecubes. I do not suffer any health problems because I eat foods as they are such as cheese without grilling it on fresh white bread sprinkled with herbs. I very rarely eat cooked foods such as frying eggs and meat.

Yes, you can drink it but you can't digest any of it - it'll grease your innards (don't wear your good pants or sit on non-oil proof furniture).

Cooking makes other essential nutrients available (ie carotene in carrots). It also destroys pathogens, so you've got a tossup.
