Refusal to forgive or accept forgiveness

Matthew 5:23,24: "Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.:"

Matthew 6: 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Known Sin

Psalms 66:18 "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:"

Doubt/Unbelief

James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

Pride

Look at the Words of Jesus in Luke 18:10-14:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Being Insincere

Matthew 6:5 "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward."

Selfish or Carnal Motives

James 4:3: " Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."

Turning A Deaf Ear To Those In Need

Proverbs 21:13: "Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard."

I John 3:17: "But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?"

Besides these I have listed there are other things that hinder our prayers. Please add those God reveals to you to this list.

Father, Thank You for promising to hear and answer our prayers, and for revealing to us the things that might hinder our prayers, and what we must do to properly deal with and correct those things.

Ouch! I think my toes just got stepped on a bit! Thanks for the great reminders of what our attitude should be when we come to the Lord in prayer. I struggle with doubt and unbelief myself. Not doubting that God will hear my prayer, but I guess doubting in myself if what I am praying is God's will. More along the lines of is it my will or God's I am praying for. Does that make sense?

AMEN! I sure do understand EXACTLY what you are saying! But God has told us to let our petitions (desires) be made known unto Him with thanksgiving.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. We may not always be praying God's perfect will, but at least we know we are praying "within" God's will for us.

Not always, but often, I will even pray simply, Lord work Your Perfect Will in this matter!

Thanks for all these wonderful posts on prayer Gerry :) I pray the Lord will bless you abundantly for all the work you are doing for Him.

Blessed-one yes that doubt does have a way of trying to creep into our hearts. I continually remind myself that nothing is too hard for God.

Thanks little sister! God has already blessed me so much, I can hardly stand it. I appreciate more than I can express the prayers of my Family!

some times i pray for something but dout that God will do it.

Yes you are right. That is a definite hindrance to our prayers.

James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

Also

Hebrews 11:6: "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

So then WHY do you yet doubt? Is it because you do not believe you are not praying in accordance with God's will?
