Why you need to check for bugs...

Yes, that white thing is alive and moving. Yuch.

When I was at a women's yeshiva in Israel, we had a Tu B'shevat seder.
Several of the pieces of fruit we opened had bugs in them...small but
clearly visible. Ick. Kind of killed the old appetite too.

I guess it's a good thing I don't like fruit-it takes a lot of checking.

Has any one ever tried checking prepackaged lettuce for bugs?
I can't find it anymore with hechshers on the packages.
the Spring lettuce mix looks really good...but to have to check each
little piece of lettuce looks like it would take forever.

get a lightbox if you don't have one. It would speed up the process methinks.

Exactly....but having to check every tiny little piece of lettuce seems daunting,
even with a light box.

That's what we do now, is just buy regular red leaf lettuce, and you
are right it doesn't take all that long to check. But it was easier
using the bagged stuff, but since they lost their hechsher that isn't
an option any more.

But that spring lettuce mix looks really inviting...but since it is small
pieces of lettuce, I would hate thought of having to check it all.
