Chechen president defends honour killings

It is like in Pakistan. A generation ago, Pakistanis and Chechens were all being schooled with a good, modern education. Such practices were looked upon as being relics of the primitive in the societies. Since then, armed with their Korans and their Madrassahs the educated elites are leading the charge back into the dark ages.

People are looking forward to the reform of Islam. Under the Russians and the British, Muslims were as modern as anyone. The values of the Taliban are the reform away from such modernism.

Sound like the Russians have a home-grown Taliban in their southern provinces.

Though they wouldn't put it as bluntly, I'll bet there are a few posters around here who might sympathize with such barbarism.
