growing up in the 90's

I'm 10 years older than you, so most of my conscious "growing up" years were from the mid 80's to the mid 90's. I have to applaud you for mentioning Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, my 2 favorite cartoons from that era. I was a teenager in the 90's so i remember things like the rise of alternative music, "grunge," the OJ Simpson trial and verdict, the Oklahoma City bombing, Family Matters complete with Urkel, Saved by the Bell on Saturday mornings, and Clarissa Explains it All on Nickelodeon.

All of this.

And (some of this is late 80s, but that's only because they were still popular well into the 90s):

• The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon
• SWAT Kats
• Tiny Toons
• A time when TV ratings (Y7, MA, etc.) didn't exist
• The original Game Boy (otherwise known as the 'gray brick' - I still have mine, actually, complete with that yellow LED screen)
• When it wasn't taboo to actually have slapstick violence in Saturday morning cartoons, nor that every show for the under-12 crowd have to be educational in some way (seriously, I can't flip through stations on a Saturday or Sunday morning without seeing that blasted E/I logo in the corner of any show targeted for kids).
• Same thing with some of the subversive or dark humor that was okay back then (like was present in almost every episode of Beakman's World, for instance - at least that was still on the air last I checked, even if only in syndication). I also miss Bill Nye.
• Toonami, when it was still worth watching (you can even see the downward spiral it took because Wikipedia has a comprehensive listing of its lineups), and when Cartoon Network mostly consisted of the Hanna-Barbara and Warner Bros. backcatalogs the remainder of the time.
• Star Trek: The Next Generation
• I can still remember the first Bush presidency, as well as Clinton's, obviously (and the impeachment, since I was in 6th grade at the time), along with the First Gulf War.
• Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM for the win) and Mega Man cartoons, and the video games.
• Random assortment of cartoon openings that are from or were still around in the 90s
• The Disney Afternoon shows: Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, DuckTales, New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Tale Spin, Goof Troop, etc.

Yeah, when we had to go to our High School's Auditorium for the class ring sales pitch 'ceremony', I remember some of the guys from my class a few rows back start going into the Planeteer callout chant.

Or as my sister said the other day, if they have to come out and tell you he's a hero, what does that really say?

I like captain planet as well and sonic. 90s nickelodeon was the best.

Haha Captain Planet. I always felt sorry for the guy with the hope ring. I always thought the power of a care bear would be frustrating when the guy next to you can manipulate fire!

Bill Nye the Science Guy was pretty fun, too.

Who could forget SNICK!? I wanted that Orange couch pretty badly back then.

AH!!! I SOOOO remember all those shows! animaniacs were one of my favorites!
and pinkie and the brain! my mom thought that show was WEIRD! she didnt really like me watching it...
I also recall a few other shows from that era, timon and pumba, King of the hill, simpsons,DOUG, SNICK, RUGRATS, TMNT..and others! i cant remember right now tho they'll come back to me..mostly they were Nicolodeon shows..I was a big fan of nickelodeon<3

I also remember the movies from my childhood, most notably the disney ones that were popular in the 1990s..like Lion King, Aladdin, Toy Story..etc! as well as..Oh yeah! the MUSIC! I was big on the 90s music, I remember listening to alot of country, as well as Jewel, Third eye blind, pearl jam, soundgarden, jars of clay, nirvana..Blind Melon, gin blossoms, smashing pumpkins, semisonic, collective soul, creed and others! the 90s RULED! time to reminisce! I'd say I enjoyed being a 90s kid, it was a fun decade to grow up in thats for sure.

As far as cartoons went, I was a big fan of Doug, Swat Kats, Thundercats...

Mostly I was the intellectual geek type that enjoyed watching all the cool educational channel shows.

I remember every Disney cartoon movie (I think my family owned them all at one point).

My music tastes...waaay too many to list...mostly anything Alternative, Rock, Metal, then I found Christian Metal, Classic Rock, Oldies, Country, and CCM.

Wow, what a trip down memory lane!!

I liked my vidya games.

NHL 95 for the Sega Genesis is still my fav.

Ooooh! And Donkey Kong, for Super NES.

Ah, memories. Power Rangers. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (now, too!). ZOOM. Boy Meets World. Sister, Sister. Doug. Pepper Ann. Salute Your Shorts. Touched by an Angel. Wings. Step by Step. Family Matters. Saved by the Bell. Smart Guy. Sigh.

I started feeling old when Fresh Prince started airing on Nick-at-Nite, putting it in the same category as I Love Lucy. Sigh.

Swat Kats!!!!! oh my gosh i forgot about that show! I loved it!!!

and who could forget...my one true obesseion as a kid..POKEMON!!!!!! I used to collect the figurines and cards like mad! I even had a few VHS tapes of the episodes, t shirts, Game Boy color game catridges, and the little Manga story books...eeep i was sooo crazy about that fad!

I still play the Pok&#233;mon games (I'm actually just about done playing through Red - yay for Dreamcast emulation and hacking so no trading is needed*!). As traditional RPGs they're still very entertaining.

*which is a necessity, because the Dreamcast Game Boy emulators aren't capable of using the trade mechanism.

Well, this is a story all about how my life got turned right upside down...

OK, just barely in the nineties (mostly having been in the '80's), but can't forget ALF

omgosh...ALF! I had a stuffed alf doll when I was like 2 or 3....i've got pictures of me carrying it around somewhere around here....

HAHAHAHA that was a cool trip down memory lane skellington! i loved alvin and the chipmunks, Gumby, the Monsters thing, cant remember what it was called, and ROCKO's MODERN LIFE! that show was soooo COOL! as was MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS...I wanted to be the pink ranger when I was little.

and Mickey D's was my fave childhood fast food place as well...all hail the happy meals

The one show I cannot forget is Save By The Bell.

The boom of grunge music with the likes of Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pearl Jam. I never really got into it, but I remember it being huge.
