Not that I borrow his style, but Paul L. Maier's historical fiction works captivate me.
He can take history - keeping it very true to the actual accounts - and make it so thrilling.

All in all, if you haven't read The Flames of Rome, please do.

Don't you just love books that can do that - take history and make it thrilling? :clap:I hadn't actually heard of Paul Maier before, but I'll see if I can find that book.

It's actually a really inspiring read for Christians. It's about the persecution of early Christians under Nero.

Cool! (Not cool that people were getting persecuted...just sounds like a worthwhile read) I haven't read anything about Nero for a while so it should be interesting. Do you do much writing?

Mostly poetry; I'd like to write something more, but I never follow through.
What about you?

I've attempted poetry but...uh...lets just say, I'm not quitting my day job. I write a bit of fiction...hopefully they'll get long enough to be recognisable as a book someday:)

be that as it may, sometimes it takes inspiration from another arthors writing style. especialy if you really like that arthor, one of my favorits is tim obrien, were reading the things they carried, its a great book, its weird, but its still good. and i really like his style, its the detials that really do it for me most of the time.

I never know what to say when people ask me my favorite authors. I read all over the board and try new ones all the time, and just because I like one book by an author doesn't mean I like all their others. I don't think I imitate any other writing styles, at least not consciously...

Although I do not try to duplicate their style, Robert E. Howard and Edgar Rice Burroughs, are two of my favorite authors.
It seems that whenever I start writing action scenes their styles start to creep into my writing and soons it turns into pastiches of their work and less and less like mine.
