Okay, so I have the day off, but Danny doesn't. So I took him to work this morning so I could have the truck and do my running around. It worked well. I came back about lunch time and we went to Logan's. Then I took him back to work and off I went to go shopping (I am in dire need of clothes!). So I'm rollin along in my jeep and the next thing I know, smoke starts coming from under my hood. I look at the gages and yep, it's overheating. So I pulled off the road into a hotel parking lot and turned it off. Then smoke started POURING out and I thought "great. It's on fire". I called Danny at work and told him where I was and he came over and got me.

Thankfully, he thinks its just a bad thermostat, but now I am sitting at his work. This has totally ruined my shopping experience. Now I have to spend my money to fix my jeep. (Again!) And since Danny's car got totalled before Christmas, we've been sharing the jeep.

SOOOOOOO frustrating!!!!!

Yes it can be frustrating.

This reminded me of something that happened to my son the other day. The day after Christmas he bought a belt for his truck. A few days later it broke and his power steering went out. Thankfully he was almost home and was able to get it home. Anyway, because the belt had fit and worked, he didn't keep his receipt. My husband called the place where he bought it to see if we could get another one without a receipt since it had been less than a week since we bought it. Well, they looked in their computer and had no record of a belt being bought on that day (how convenient) and since he paid cash there was no other way to track the purchase. My husband even remembered the name of the guy that sold it to them, but, no receipt, no exchange. So, my son spent about $70 in a few days on belts. He did go to a different store this time. And, believe me, he will keep his receipts from now on

Ah, I remember an old thumper I had and I had many strange problems with it, breaking down for no apparent reason. After months of frustrations and expense in trying to find the problem, I shared the problem at my home group. After the meeting one old fireball Christians said to me: "Lets pray on it!" We both went out and laid hands on my car, and guess what---no more problems!

Sorry to see the trouble you were having. In the old days, because of the climate I lived in was hot, I use to remove the thermostat. Keeping the water system flushed and clean, and filled with with radiator fluid avoids most of that problem. There is possibly that you may have sludge at the bottom of your radiator.

One way of proving it is that start the motor up and let it run for a while and if the upper part of the radiator is hot, and the lower part a lot cooler, then the bottom of the radiators is possibly filled with sludge.

Know the feeling, about a week ago my mitsibishi cracked head , spent 3 days looking for another car to get us through.
Small automatics have doubled in price so had to spend more than I wanted to.

Pretty sure it's a flaky thermostat. Replaced the water pump about a month ago and while we were at it replaced the hoses, thermostat, and uni-belt. My Stratus had an issue with the thermostat going bad, being replaced, and a month later needing to be replaced again.

When I arrived where Sunshyne was there was coolant all over the parking lot, but the motor cranked and wasn't too hot (it was over 212, however). With the motor running, we added water to the radiator in hopes of seeing where the water was coming out (I assumed at that point that a hose had burst or come undone). No water anywhere and the engine began to cool down to it's normal 180 degree range.

Drove the JEEP back to my office and then home tonight and all appears to be working normally. I'm going to flush it in the morning, replace the thermostat, and hope for the best.

It is frustrating!

That once happened to me in a bank drive thru line. IT was quite embarrassing for all the customers to see it happen, plus I was kind of stuck for awhile.

well, now he doesn't think it's the thermostat. we are ordering a new radiator on Wednesday when we get paid. I don't know what's going on. I just know that we have to keep filling the thing with water whenever we go anywhere.

Sludge in the bottom of the radiator and scaling in the core of the radiator!:)

She only "doesn't know what's going on" because she refuses to hear the truth!! :p

After pressure builds up in the system the radiator leaks. Rather than put more gunk in the radiator to try to stop the leak, I'm going to replace it. When I replaced the water pump I was looking at the radiator and said we're going to have to replace it sooner or later...well, it's sooner!
