Last Wednesday a good friend of mine died very unexpectedly. She went into the hospital for a really bad cold, and after just four days of heavy sedation passed away from what turned out to be aggressive leukemia. Her husband (who is also a close friend) is crushed. They were married just four months. This was going to be their first Christmas as a married couple. At the viewing, he told me and hubby that sometimes he would come home from work and get upset because she's so messy... for example she'd have made a pbj sandwich and the knife would still be dripping pb on the counter and it would annoy him since he is such a neat person. Well he started crying and said that he'd give anything to walk into the kitchen to see a dirty knife on the counter because it would mean she was in the next room watching tv.

I think sometimes we need to be reminded that the very things that annoy us about our loved ones are the very things we'd give anything to experience if they were taken from us unexpectedly. Please keep my friend John in your prayers if you read this, he really needs them right now :prayer:

Oh wow, I am so sorry for your, and John's, terrible loss. :(

You make an excellent point. My husband and I joke about this often -- one of us will be doing something that annoys the other, and we'll say, "One day you'll be missing me doing this!" It's a joke but it makes us both pause and sometimes even get a little misty because we know it's true.

That is so sad. I'm praying for you and for your friend's husband and family as you all deal with this unexpected loss.

Rick Burgess, a radio personality, said something similar after his 2 year old son drowned this past January. He said that he used to fuss about Cornbread (nickname for Bronner) having his crayons on the carpet of his new office. The first time he went back in to his office after Bronner's death, the crayons were in the floor and Rick said he just stepped on them and ground them into the carpet, because the state of the carpet had lost any value to him.

If your friend's husband is a Christian, you might want to have him watch the video of Rick speaking at Bronner's memorial. This family has relied on the strength of the Lord and He has used their loss to advance the message of the Kingdom. It can be found at www.rickandbubba.com - just look for Bronner's page.

Thanks for sharing about your friend. It's a great reminder to us all to appreciate our loved ones, maybe even because of their foibles rather than just in spite of them.
