Intellect

Intellegent design?

  • Yes, there was a intellegent designer of the universe.

  • There was NO intellegent designer.

  • I have not decided yet.

  • What universe? The earth rides on the back of a turtle.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary Intellect is:

n. 1) a. The ability to learn and reason; the capacity for knowledge and understanding.

We find all of these things in our Bible.

Isaiah 1:17
    Learn to do good;
    Seek justice,
    Rebuke the oppressor;
    Defend the fatherless,
    Plead for the widow.

Isaiah 1:18a Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord:

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Exodus 31:3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

There is so much wisdom, knowledge and understanding in the Bible. You could study it for a lifetime and you would only be starting to understand what God has for us to know.

The Bible, like the universe is infinite. The Bible tells us about the universe. It is though wisdom, understanding and knowledge that the Universe is made. There is a intellegent design, and that is why, we can use our intellect to serch it out and understand so much of what we see in the natural world around us.

I choose "There was NO intellegent designer." If there was n intellegent designer he could have atleast left his name some where in the universe just like all good designers do.

Btw how is the bible infinite? And it doesn't tell you everything about the universe.

This stems from a need to be accepted or known, obviously even if you don't read the Bible, God does not have this need.

Did they teach you anything in sunday school. Or did they just give you a picture of Jesus and some crayola's to color it with?

In the church I attend, our average sunday school graduate knows more about God than the average Phd to come out of the average university today. Of course they often are to busy to study for their Phd to learn about God, but still, I wonder sometimes.

What was the question again?

I never really attended sunday school. I did not come to God to get saved 'tell I was about 30. My grandmother was 99 when she came to God and got saved. In my opinion, the last year of her life was the best, because she had more peace then she ever know was possible.

But he did Seesaw. His name is in our Bible but most importantly in our hearts. I knew God before I read of him.

Then why does god want us to "know" him and his word. If he has no need for us to know or want him what is religion all about? Why does the bible "his word" require belief and acceptance in order for us to be saved?

Such religious rhetoric....

I had to vote undecided.

As a Christian why would I vote this way?

Because the universe is a cool place and all, but it shows no design in a human sense of the word.

But maybe it shows design the way God looks at it...

And maybe not...

Either way, whether the universe was designed or not is utterly unimportant for the basics of Christian faith.

If there is no designer where did the matter come from?

Study the processes of a cell (photosynthesis/ cellular respiration/ reproduction) then come back to me and tell me there is no designer.

It would be really amazing in my opinion for all of these proccess to just happen.

If there is no designer where did the matter come from?

Who knows... I might just as well ask, "if there is a designer, where did the designer come from?"

We really don't have any concept of whether "something" is eternal, or whether "something" had at one point to come from nothing. All we really know is that "something" exists and is able to exist without breaking any rules. Given that we know it exists, and are pretty sure there is no satisfactory explanation that does not leave unanswered questions of the same kind, the question "where did the first energy/matter come from?" diminishes in importance, and we can draw no conclusions whatsoever from the fact that we lack an answer to it.

These, however, could easily be artifacts of neo-darwinian evolution. At least, that is where all of the evidence seems to be pointing at present.

Edit: a couple of the "processes of the cell" may have more to do with Margulis' endosymbiosis. The evidence seems to point to that theory to explain mitochondria & chloroplasts, anyway.
