I'm feeling like I want to change my answer now. The people saying things like, "If it were based on snow we'd never/always have winter" are making a lot of sense to me.

Obviously my original answer was East Coast biased, but now that I'm in The Land of Boring Weather, where winter never comes, I think I was off base with my response.

Snooch! Who loves ya baby!

"Winter" does not arrive on a date on the calendar. Now, it would arrive around that time...but it's not fall until 11:59pm on Dec. 20th and winter one minute later. That's silly.

Winter is after Thanksgiving when the the temps drop and the serious snow starts...and drifts...OR whatever weather is appropriate to your area code :p

Spring is when trees begin to bud and blooms come out and baby birds are born and stuff.

Summer is when it's hot and sunny and usually all kinds of crops and flowers are in full bloom and stuff...but it's hot.

Fall is when summer starts to cool off and you start to notice leaves are changing. The air cools a little. Thank G-d that 100% humidity is over!

See, now that's where I was going with my original answer! Gaaaah I'm wishy-washy today. :D

There are 21 votes...what was our answer Red?

When Pinkguard posed the question to me, I gave her answer #2. So the majority of you are cool like me.

Now, that's not to say that #1 is wrong... I just think that #2 is more correct. ;)

Pinkguard has a magnetic calendar like the one in the picture below:
5126B0Q1YZL._SS400_.jpg

When we did the calendar up for December, we placed the "1st Day of Winter" magnet on the 21st of December. And Pinkguard, much like myself and immersedingrace, is very "rules" based. If I said that it was already winter, then she would ask me why we have a "1st Day of Winter" magnet. And when she's older, and decides to inquire into this further, I'll give her a pre-astronomy lesson on the Summer and Winter solstice, and the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox.

My kids have the same calendar Pinkguard has and we have also appropriately marked the official First Day of Winter...but I have been saying it's winter since mid-November. And every time I say it, my kids remind me that technically winter hasn't arrived. Stupid calendar.

I have that calander too.....but my cats LOVE it. I can not keep magnets on it. The will jump up and swipe them off and then carry them off. So I had to put it away in my closet with the remaining magnets, and hopefully I can use it in my future classroom.

Just wondering. If we go through a winter without any snow (like last year) does that mean we haven't had a winter? :D

Maybe the answer should be, "Winter begins December 21, or whenever it's cold enough to not be fall anymore, whichever comes first." ;)

I voted #2 before I read the thread.

I'm also very "rules" oriented.

One year, here in New England, the trees had bloomed along with the flowers...and we had snow AFTER May 7th! So....well into SPRING...Winter returned, apparently. ;)

So, she's 5? Well, buckle up! ^_^You just might run into another "something" somewhere along the line before graduation. ;)

And perhaps I sense home schooling in your future?
