Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much I can help without breaking forum rules. I run a web hosting company; we're not huge, we're not incredibly cheap, but we've had a couple of our customers since 1997, and (with the exception of the Great U.S. West Line Troubles of early 2000) we have been fairly reliable, and we have discounts for non-profit organizations - a discount I can say with confident would be applied to any church. www.plethora.net; I run it.

(I sincerely hope this isn't construed as "posting an ad"; I like to think that answering a question is legit.)

For registration, I suggest http://www.directnic.com

I own 3 domains through them, and I have never had any problems (unlike with networksolutions).

I'm hosted with http://www.zeonhost.com . Something nice about them is that they allow for multiple domains (and a different site for each domain) in a single account.

Wow here is an old thread that got dug up, but it's a good thread and I think I have some good links for it.

Now there are quite a few hosts that will give hosting packages to Christian Organizations for little or no charge. The best thing I see going is at http://www.evangel-list.com/ You get 25megs of space, 500meg transfer/mo unlimited POP3, Apache, PHP, Databases, no forced ads, and many other features. Can be a Church or any type of Christian Organization, Outreach or information site, just needs to be a Christian site. All they ask is for a yearly donation of what ever you want to give and a link back to the host someplace on your site. They also offer larger accounts for a fee if you need something more.

As for regular top-level Domain Names http://domains.aplus.net/main.html $5.95 for first year registration and then $7.95 on renewals after your first year.

hehe and no I don't work for either company.

Or, the one I'm with which is free hosting altogether,

http://www.1sthostweb.com/

My website is in my profile if you want to see what kind of service it is. The only fee you pay is for your domain name each year, which is the same price as Network Solutions (who I was with for years).

Probably a good host but charging $35 a year for the domain name (+$49.95 setup fee), ain't that sorta a hidden fee from the provider? You are paying $35 a year for a domain name through them when most places only charge $8 a year for a Domain Name that you can point anywhere you like. That's like paying $27 a year for the webspace (not counting in the setup fee). I would not have said anything but they claim it's FREE when it is not.

For cheap hosting I suggest http://www.geekhosting.com/ 50meg storage, 2gig transfer, all the bells and whistles for $1.95/mo (when you pay by year $23.40) no setup fee and use your own domain name.

As for http://www.evangel-list.com/ I'll mention that you can use your own domain name and there is no setup fee, or any fee what so ever. Only a yearly donation of what you feel fit to donate.
