Sr. Rosaria received a call at the religious ed. office by a very angry mother. It was a 'how dare you!' call. Seems mom was upset that the religious ed. teacher told her class of fourth graders that God wants people to be married before they live together.

In the case of the first, if you don't like the position of the church don't send your children there for an education.

For the lesbian one we need to be careful there. The fact she is a lesbian does not condemn her. How she handles herself is what the church should be more concerned of.

I don't know why anyone would send their children to Catholic school if they don't want them exposed to, well, Catholicism. That's kind of part and parcel to the whole thing. You've got to either be Catholic or at least be alright with your child being taught Catholic things, or Catholic school isn't for you. Everyone has the opportunity to send their children to public school free of charge if they don't want a Catholic education for their child. It's not forced upon anyone.

So, basically, I agree with you. :)

wow....
I know a lady whos sister is a lesbian, and she (the sister) literally demanded a letter from church apoligizing for saying she(her sister) was going to hell in ccd.

To be fair, there are sometimes factors that limit culpability and make sins that are objective mortal, non-mortal for a particular person. It's not up to a CCD teacher to say that any individual is going to hell, that's God's call. What a CCD teacher could say in a situation right that is that it is a sin and leave it at that.

The reason we have Catholic Schools is so our children can be given their education in light of the Catholic doctrines that we believe are true. So, if someone doesn't believe Catholic doctrine is true they can save themselves a load of cash and send their child to a government ran public school where they will be taught what government ran organizations have decided is true.

So at least in our country we are free to make the decision. My only concern is that it is so expensive to send our children to Catholic school. I wish it was easier for families on a tight budget. All Catholics should be given an oppourtunity by their Bishop to choose to educate their children in the faith as opposed to the state. They just don't have the funds on hand to make this easy for people.

I dont think the teacher was out of line in the least. The kid asked, brought scripture and the poor teacher basically said yes. It seems like modern times allow for more sin. Clearly if you are actively engaging in homesexual behaviour, you are repeatedly sinning. It couldve been handled better, but a sin is a sin. And like with the educator, if you dont want your kids to know what the catholic viewpoint is,dont send your kids.

At a recent bible study, my buddy arrived and was upset because his son had come home from school that day(Catholic school) crying. His son was crying because he had an 'argument' with his teacher during religion class. The teacher had informed the students that the Church does not teach that we are all born with original sin - instead, the church teaches all babies are completely innocent of sin. He also told the students that the Church no longer teaches the reality of purgatory. My buddies son(God bless him), stood up and said that the teacher was wrong on these two points and ended up in an argument with his teacher and was 'made to look foolish' in front of the other grade six students.

How awful for the child - but what a kid!! I hope his parents were able to meet up with the teacher (or even higher up) to make sure this type of thing doesn't happen again.

Bishops are responsible for the Catholic Education of Catholics in their Dioceses. This kind of thing must be reported and hopefully come to the Bishops attention.

This kind of thing is ridiculous. If you want to teach at a Catholic School you must teach Catholic Doctrine.

The teacher should either resign or publicly recant her position in front of her students.
