im sorry but i have to interupt and say,

I HATE CHRISTMAS CAROLS!

i think they're so boring and repetitive!

I'm surprised to read that a Christian thinks that Christmas carols about the Lord's birth are 'boring'.

In what way is singing of your Saviour's glorious arrival into the world, 'boring' exactly? And repetitive? We only sing Carols during Advent and Christmas...that leaves at least 10.5 months when they are not being sung. In what way is that repetitive?

What you are describing is a Christmas Hymn, Carol's don't necessarily have any connection with Christ's birth at all ie. Jingle Bells.

My favourite is Hark the Herald:

"Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate deity"

Magic.

What is your favourite Christmas Carol and why?

I like In the Bleak Midwinter, because it is so evocative, even if it evokes an English Christmas, rather than a Bethlehem one. I also like God Rest Ye Merry, because it sounds like a peal of bells ringing over the countryside. :)

Ah well then we are looking at this differently. When i used to go Carolling it included all the Christmas Carols about the Lord's birth.

As you'll see from this 'Christmas Carol site' almost every traditional Carol is about Jesus birth

O Christmas Tree carol
The Wassail Song
http://www.carols.org.uk/while_shepherds_watched.htm

Sorry to be picky these 'trdational' carols have practically nothing to do with Jesus's birth! Jingle Bells is on that site too!

:preach: I just showed you in my post all the carols under the heading 'Christmas Carols' on that site. I also told you that they were almost all about Christ's birth. I posted the link because it supported my view that a lot of people equate Christmas Carols with songs heralding Jesus' Birth.

Since a quarter of those carols have nothing to do with jesus birth I don't think you've supported you point very well! :preach:

Well considering the person who mentionned she found christmas carols repetitive and boring, posted that comment 5 years ago, I can't imagine a reply anytime soon :D How did anyone manage to find a thread that old?!

Lets try not to turn a simple, light thread into an argument though, please :sorry:

Thinking about it, I'd say 'Joy to the World' is probably my favourite carol out there.

oh dear - children, children. Christmas carols are simply songs of a religious or secular condition that are performed on or about the Mass of Christ, be it on 25th December or otherwise.
The fact - oops - the FACT that it is actually Mithra's Birthday, will already confirm the pagan origin of performance, be it vocal or otherwise, to celebrate a festival.
Christians purely and simply do what thousands of people in hundreds of different pagan cultures were doing for thousands of years.

Does it really matter whether it's Christ's this or that? After all, he believed in Angels, and they're of pagan origin, the same of course as Hell and a myriad of other Christian concepts.

Can that really be true? Of course, after all, and CAROL is actually a DANCE, not a song!!!!!

I like Silent Night...and I would love a soprano voice to be able to sing it as it should sound :( When it's sung well it makes me shudder...so beautiful.

Saying that , most carols sung by children sound wonderful, such sweet voices.

Also love Away in a Manger, it always reminds of when I was a child...it used to make me sad, the last verse is quite sad:

I love thee Lord Jesus,
I ask thee to stay,
Close by me forever and love me I pray.
Bless all the dear children,
In thy tender care,
And fit us for Heaven to live with thee there
I used to think when I was little that it meant actual children (now I'm older I know that it means God's Children, which is all of us).

Brings tears to my eyes

My favorite Christmas Carol is Carol of the Bells, especially when an orchestra is playing. It gives me goose bumps. I went to a Martina Mcbride Christmas concert one year and she brought tears to my eyes. I had never heard anyone sing Christmas Carols so beautifully.

I am afraid that I'm going to be controversial again.

Which one is it that has the line "How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is given?"

Obviously written by a man, who had never attended a birth in his life!

Your kidding... Carol of Bells has lyrics? Would it still be considered controversial if one just listened to the instrumental?
